This is a comprehensive guide to therapeutics and management of heart disease. It should help the reader to understand the use of cardiovascular drugs. The first sections deal with the fundamental principles of drug action, principles of pharmacokinetics and the prospects for gene therapy of cardiovascular disease. The later sections discuss the roles of classes of drugs and individual compounds in various entities relevant to pathophysiology. The sections can therefore be used seperately or as an integrated work, depending on the depth of the information being sought. Pertinent data from clinical trials have been given special emphasis throughout the volume, as they provide the framework for rational therapeutic decision-making, as well as useful data on risk/benefit ratio. Several chapters deal with areas of special interest and needs relevant to age and race, as effects of drugs vary in these populations of patients.
