Part one of the first volume of the three-volume \"Head and Neck Surgery\" series, this book examines surgery of the face, nose and facial skull. Chapters are organized according to surgical areas. All procedures are presented step-by-step in duotone, specially drawn watercolour illustrations which give a \"3-dimensional\" plastic image of the areas from the viewpoint of the surgeon. They are selected and described by authors from their own experience, with their appraisal of effectiveness, landmarks, danger points, pitfalls, complications and post-operative follow-up. All new surgical techniques, such as endoscopy, laser surgery and new developments in techniques such as microvascular surgery, have been incorporated. Standard features of each chapter are: diagnosis and pre-operative evaluation, indications, operative goals, surgical preparation, anaesthesia, operative techniques, pitfalls, post-operative care and complications and sequelae. All procedures are selected and described by international contributors from their own personal experience, with their appraisal of effectiveness, landmarks, pitfalls, complications and postoperative follow-up. All new surgical techniques, such as endoscopy, laser surgery and new developments in techniques, such as microvascular surgery, which have been incorporated into this new edition. The series is aimed at all head and neck surgeons, plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, and residents in these fields.
