Článek přibližuje čtenáři téma povědomí rodičů o dětských právech ve smyslu Úmluvy o právech dítěte. Článek přibližuje výzkum, ve kterém rodiče dětí navštěvujících základní školu odpovídali na otázky vztahující se k tématu dětská práva, jestli se sami účastnili aktivit s touto tematikou, jak uplatňují práva dětí v určitých modelových situacích. Rodiče vyjadřovali také míru spokojenosti se vzděláváním dítěte a s možnostmi kulturního a sportovního vyžití pro děti v místě bydliště. Článek navíc přináší srovnání výsledků se studií realizovanou v Itálii a Španělsku. Z tohoto srovnání vychází, že čeští respondenti častěji zcela souhlasí s tvrzením, že děti mají právo vyjádřit svůj názor. V otázce samostatnosti dítěte se rodiče nejčastěji shodují v tom, že si jejich děti mohou vybírat kamarády podle svého uvážení, psát si soukromě deník, telefonovat bez kontroly rodičů a plnit domácí úkoly. Tento článek naráží mimo jiné na dichotomii mezi právy dítěte a právy dospělých, resp. právy rodičů dětí. V práci se objevuje základní dilema rodičovské výchovy: vést dítě, nebo ho nechat růst? Z pohledu zákona o rodině č. 94/1963, v platném znění, leží na rodičích primární odpovědnost za implementaci práv obsažených v Úmluvě o právech dítěte. Předpokladem je, že rodiče sami jsou v tomto směru vzdělaní a respektují princip toho nejlepšího pro dítě. Výsledky potvrzují, že rodiče jako respondenti respektují práva dítěte v nových ohledech na jeho soukromí a nechávají mu oproti minulosti více volnosti.

The article acquaints the reader with the theme of the parents´ awareness of children rights in the sense of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The article describes a research, in which parents of children attending the primary school answered questions related to the theme of children rights - whether they have participated in activities associated with this theme and how they implement rights of children in certain model situations. The parents expressed the measure of satisfaction with the child education and with possibilities of the cultural and sport enjoyment at their place of residence too. In addition, the article brings a comparison of results with a study implemented in Italy and Spain. This comparison suggests that Czech respondents more frequently completely agree with a statement that children can rightfully express their opinions. In the question concerning the child independence, the parents most frequently agree that their children can choose their friends based on their own consideration, write privately their diary, make phone calls without parent control and fulfil home tasks. The article inter alia encounters a dichotomy between children rights and rights of adults or parents of the children. In the work, there is a basic dilemma of the education by parents: to conduct the child or to let him/her grow? In the viewpoint of the Law on family No. 94/1963 as amended, the parents are primarily responsible for the implementation of rights comprised in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. There is an assumption that the parents are educated in this direction and respect the principle of doing their best for the child. The results demonstrate the fact that the parents as respondents respect the right of the child in new directions of respecting the child privacy and provide the child with more freedom compared to the past.
