Endometrióza je benígne ochorenie s črtami invazívneho procesu postihujúce až 10 % žien v reprodukčnom veku. Svojimi klinickými prejavmi výrazne ovplyvňuje kvalitu života žien. Genetika môže byť prínosom pri objasnení etiopatogenézy ochorenia a umožniť tak rýchlejšiu diagnostiku, špecifickú liečbu a časom možno aj jeho prevenciu. Z pohľadu genetiky patrí endometrióza medzi komplexné ochorenia, vyznačuje sa pravdepodobne polygénnym charakterom dedičnosti. Na objasnenie genetického podkladu endometriózy je potrebné vykonať ešte ďalšie štúdie.

Endometriosis is a benign disease with features of an invasive process affecting up to 10 % of women of reproductive age. By its clinical manifestations it influences significantly quality of life in women. Genetics might be a contribution to elucidation of etiopathogenesis of the disease and so to enable quicker diagnostics, specific treatment and eventually also its prevention. From the view of genetics, endometriosis belongs to complex diseases; it is probably characterized by a polygenic inheritance. Further studies are required to elucidate the genetic background of endometriosis.
