Neuropsychology for Clinical Practice was originally intended as a response to mental health practitioners\' need for a practical, hands-on resource that described the etiology, assessment, and treatment of common neurological disorders. As experts in the field recognized early in the book\'s development, however, it actually informs an expanded audience: practicing clinical neuropsychologists, graduate students taking neuropsychology courses or in neuropsychology rotations of clinical internships, postdoctoral neuropsychology students, fellows, and other professionals who work with patients who have neuropsychological disorders, such as vocational and rehabilitation counselors and attorneys. The editors of this volume—all current faculty of the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center—provide a cohesiveness in approach as well as expertise in a broad range of areas and populations. The chapter authors focus on over a dozen of the most common neuropsychological disorders in adults and children in ways that are most pertinent to assessment and treatment in clinical settings. Chapters are organized to cover adult neuropsychology, child and life-span developmental neuropsychology, and issues in forensic neuropsychology and psychotherapy. A sampling of the disorders examined includes traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer\'s disease and other dementias, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson\'s disease, and attention deficit disorders. In each chapter, leading practitioners describe what causes a disorder, how it is manifested in symptoms and limitations in everyday functioning, its psychological effects for patients, and the best ways to understand and assess patients for optimal treatment planning. In addition to identifying and explaining assessment batteries for each disorder, the authors present checklists, charts, interview protocols, and modifications to treatment protocol to help clinicians apply neuropsychological knowledge in the most practical way. Guidance is also provided for aiding family members of patients in dealing with disorders and caregiving options. A key chapter on neuropsychology in forensic settings focuses on empowering clinicians to set reasonable and achievable objectives for forensic work and contains much helpful advice on working with attorneys and testifying in court. The broad scope of Neuropsychology for Clinical Practice makes it an invaluable resource for clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, family counselors, or advanced students in any of these areas, as well as a helpful guide to counselors and attorneys in need of background knowledge in neuropsychology. This publication was produced as a collaborative effort of APA\'s Division 12 (Clinical Psychology) and APA Books®.
