Vzrůstá potřeba instrumentů pro mìření psychologických a sociálních aspektů zdraví, které umožní srovnání výsledků v mezinárodním výzkumu. V této práci popisujeme vývoj české verze dotazníků kvality života Světové zdravotnické organizace WHOQOL podle metodiky Světové zdravotnické organizace. Shrnujeme sémantické problémy, se kterými se setkáváme při překládání dotazníků kvality života z angličtiny do češtiny. Pro konstrukci škál odpovědí jsme použili postup, kdy respondenti znázorňovali polohu výrazů frekvence a množství na 100milimetrové úsečce ohraničené krajními body škály. Předkládáme výsledky získané tímto postupem a diskutujeme jejich možné využití.

There is increasing demand for instruments measuring psychological and social indicators of health that are comparable in cross - -cultural research. In this paper we describe development of the Czech version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) instruments according the WHO guidelines. We summarize semantic challenges that are typical when translating quality of life instruments from English to Czech. For designing the response scales we used procedure in which respondents placed freq uency and intensity descriptors on 100 mm visual analogue scale with given anchor points. We present the results of the testing proce dure and discuss the application of the methodology.
