V okamžiku, kdy dítě onemocní onkologickým onemocněním, potřeby a priority rodičů se jistým způsobem transformují – středem pozornosti se stává nemocné dítě. Cílem šetření byla identifikace potřeb rodičů dětí s onkologickým onemocněním a vnímání těchto potřeb zdravotními sestrami. Výzkumný soubor zahrnoval 100 rodičů onkologicky nemocných dětí, kteří byli hospitalizováni společně s dítětem ve Fakultní nemocnici v Ostravě nebo ve Fakultní nemocnici v Praze Motole. Druhý soubor byl tvořen 70 sestrami pracujícími ve stejných zařízeních s onkologicky nemocnými dětmi a jejich rodiči. Byl použit standardizovaný dotazník Needs of Parents Questionnaire (NPQ). Statistické vyhodnocení se uskutečnilo prostřednictvím mediánového testu, chí-testu a Fisherova exaktního testu. Ve výsledcích je patrná rozdílnost ve vnímání potřeb mezi rodiči onkologicky nemocných dětí a zdravotními sestrami. Na rozdíl od sester je pro rodiče důležitá psychická podpora rodičů ze strany sester, vyjádření naděje, včasná informovanost o vyšetřeních a kvalitní vzdělávání dítěte. Výsledky by měly vést sestry k dominantnímu uspokojování právě těchto potřeb rodičů onkologicky nemocných dětí.

The moment a child becomes ill with cancer, the needs and priorities of parents are in some way transformed, and the ill child becomes the focus of the attention. The aim of this research was to identify the needs of parents of children with cancer and perception of these needs by nurses. The research sample included 100 parents of children with cancer who were hospitalized with the child in the Faculty Hospital Ostrava or in the Faculty Hospital in Prague Motol. The second sample consisted of 70 nurses working in the same facilities with cancer ill children and their parents. A standardized questionnaire Needs of Parents Questionnaire (NPQ) was used. Statistical evaluation was carried out by median test, chi-test and Fisher‘s exact test. In the results are evident differences in perception between the needs of parents of children with cancer and nurses. Unlike for nurses, for parents is important the psychological support of parents by nurses, expressing hope, timely information on screening and quality education of the child. The results should lead nurses to a dominant satisfying these very needs of parents of children with cancer.
