Pri rozhodovaní o taktike liečby Morbus Crohn (MC) nie je dôležitá otázka, či bude použitá medikamentózna, alebo chirurgická liečba. Rovnako nemožno očakávať, že chirurgický manažment vyrieši každý problém súvisiaci s ochorením. Všeobecne možno povedať, že starostlivé posúdenie a výber medikamentóznej liečby, prípadne v kombinácii s chirurgickou liečbou, poskytuje najlepšiu modalitu liečby MC. Vylúčenie alebo oneskorenie indikácie niektorej možnosti vedie k neadekvátnej liečbe a zbytočne prolongovanému a mnohokrát komplikovanému priebehu.
