Informácie o postupe hlavičky plodu pôrodnými cestami sú dôležité pre vedenie pôrodu. V niektorých prípadoch je však palpačné vyšetrenie nepresné. Dnes už možno zobraziť postup hlavičky plodu aj pomocou 2D či 3D translabiálnej alebo transperineálnej sonografie. Meranie “uhla progresie” a niektorých ďalších ultrasonografických parametrov umožňuje hodnotiť postup hlavičky v pôrodnývh cestách. Detekcia zmien v cirkulácii plodu počas pôrodu pomocou dopplerovskej sonografie nie je presná. Ojedinelé práce ukazujú, že aj MRI má potenciál na zobrazenie postupu hlavičky počas pôrodu. Ukazuje sa, že sonografické stanovenie postupu hlavičky je vhodnou metódou pri stanovovaní prognózy pôrodu.

Information on passing of the fetal head in the birth canal is important for birth management. In some cases the digital examination is inaccurate. Nowadays it is possible to image the head descent also by 2D or 3D translabial or transperineal sonography. The measurement of „the angle of progression“ and some other ultrasonographic parameters enable the head progression evaluation in the birth canal. Detection of changes in the fetal circulation during the labour by Doppler sonography is inaccurate. Single works show that MRI has also its potential in the imagining of the head progression during the labour. It appears that sonographic detection of the head progression is a suitable method for determining of labour prognosis.
