Canagliflozin patří do skupiny inhibitorů sodíko-giukózového kotransportéru 2 (sodium-glucose co-transporter 2, SGLT2), která je již dlouhodobě v klinické praxi. Jeho účinnost na kardiovaskulární i renální cíle a bezpečnost byla ověřena řadou randomizovaných studií (program studií CANVAS, CREDENCE). V kazuistice je popisována léčba diabetu 2. typu u 711etého pacienta, který je léčen canagliflozinem dva roky. Tato léčba umožnila ukončení podávání sulfonylurey, která vedla k většími riziku hypoglykemií. Komplikace terapie nebyly zaznamenány, nedošlo k progresi nefropatie.

Canagliflozin belongs to the group of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, which has long been in clinical practice. Its efficacy for both cardiovascular and renal targets and safety has been validated in a number of randomized trials (CANVAS and CREDENCE trial program). The case report describes the treatment of type 2 diabetes in a 71-year-old patient who has been on canagliflozin therapy for two years. This treatment allowed the discontinuation of sulfonylureas, which led to a greater risk of hypoglycemia. Complications of therapy have not been noted, and there has been no progression of nephropathy.
