A 50-year-old man developed within a short time sclerodermiform changes on the upper half of the body associated with considerable loss of pubescence. Examination revealed high uroporphyrin levels and the diagnosis of porphyria cutanea tarda associated with this dermatological symptomatology was diagnosed. Organ damage, suggesting systemic scleroderma was not found. After venepuncture and combined treatment with anti-malaria drugs, penicillin and small doses of steroids sclerotization of the skin receded substantially within a short time, pubescence reappeared and the porphyrin values reached normal levels.
