Background: Rylux BSUa fluorescent dye, a blancophore, is used for assessment of mycotic and parasitic diseases because of its affinity to chitin. In the submitted paper the authors used the dye for assessment of intercellular bridges. Methods and results: Intercellular bridges after staining with blancophore were assessed by fluorescent microscopy. The bridges were visualized readily in 10 healthy skin donors as well as in 11 patients with eczemdermatitis in the region of the spongiosa. Conclusions: The authors assume that it is possible to use the above method as a matter of routine for assessment of intercellular bridges in the epidermis, although so far the mechanism of the bond between the blancophore and the intercellular bridges is not clear.
