A refinement of the method for determining the fraction of CFU-s in the S phase is presented. The new procedures were tested by means of a model experiment in which the fraction of CFU-s 'killed' was simulated by diluting the cell suspension. Another test was to determine the fraction of the CFU-s in the S phase using duplicate samples.
