Definition

Cytoplasmic granules composed of RIBONUCLEOPROTEINS which form only when stress-activated pathways stall translation initiation. Stress granules and processing bodies both sequester inactive mRNPs. Stress granules clear mRNPs through autophagy and may interact with P-BODIES.
