Definice
Plankton tvoří mikroskopické a makroskopické organismy, jejichž pohyb ve vodním sloupci je pasivní (tzn., že například není schopen aktivního pohybu proti proudu). Plankton můžeme dělit dle typu organismů na bakterioplankton, fytoplankton (převážně autotrofní organismy) a zooplankton (převážně heterotrofní organismy).
