The ureter is a derivate of the Wolffian mesonephric duct and undergoes complex changes during development. The most common developmental anomaly is complete duplication of the ureter. Duplication of the ureter may be complete or incomplete. Incomplete duplication of ureter is well known as bifid ureter. Presence of various anomalies of the ureter is associated with increased risk of urinary tract infections and many other clinical complications.

Ileus is one of the most severe diagnoses of the group of acute abdomen events. Some patients with certain forms of bowel obstruction respond well to conservative therapy. However, the diagnosis of strangulation ileus can be delayed in some situations, resulting in high morbidity and mortality in such cases. Our paper presents the case of an 81-year-old female patient who developed an ileus shortly after ureteral stent placement due to obstructive hydroureteronephrosis. The strangulation of the small intestine was caused by an atypical position of the right ureter in the abdominal cavity.

INTRODUCTION: The ureter is present in surgical field during inguinal hernia repair in 0.5-4% of cases. It typically occurs in obese patients, in men and patients after kidney transplants. Right-sided and indirect location of ureteral herniation prevails. The clinical picture is mostly asymptomatic, but possible manifestations include increased frequency of urination with urgency, nocturia, recurrent pyelonephritis, urosepsis, feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, signs of GIT obstruction. Diagnostic methods include retrograde pyelography or CT urography. Surgical treatment is indicated in every case of ureteral herniation. Reposition of the ureter retroperitoneally and standard plasty of the inguinal canal is the method of choice. METHODS: 33 cases of ureteral hernia were reviewed in order to write a systematized review of the topic. The case report describes a 68-year-old patient with prostatic hyperplasia and dysuria treated at our institution. A preoperative CT examination with intravenous contrast showed herniation of the right ureter into the inguinal area with hydronephrosis of 2nd degree. Preoperative insertion of a mono-J stent into the right ureter and reposition of the ureter retroperitoneally followed by hernia repair using alloplastic material was performed. There were no postoperative complications. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: In risky cases, the surgeon should assume the possible presence of a ureter in the inguinal region. Careful dissection in the inguinal area reduces the risk of iatrogenic damage to the ureter.

Retrocaval ureter is a developmental anomaly of the course of the ureter in relation to the inferior vena cava. In spite of the fact the pathophysiological consequences of this anomaly are very serious, clinical manifestations are relatively poor. Experience with the management of this disorder in our 4 patients justifies the therapy we applied. It involves resection of a part of the ureter running behind the inferior vena cava, transposition of the ureter and subsequent end-to-end anastomosis of both parts of the ureter or of the ureter directly with the pelvis. The results verified at postoperative check-up examinations were very good, demonstrating the correctness of the tactics and procedure used.

Foreign bodies placed into the ureter are uncommon. Unintentionally placed nonabsorbable sutures may cause obstruction and stone formation. If not recognized, the patient may become symptomatic. We present a diagnosis of a rare case from Turkey, in which a ureter stone was formed by a nonabsorbable suture in a male patient with a previous laparotomy.

Micropapillary urothelial carcinoma (MPUC) is a rare aggressive variant of urothelial carcinoma, associated with advanced tumor stage, high tendency to invade lymphovascular spaces, and metastasize to lymph nodes and other organs. Therefore, it has a poor prognosis. One of the most prominent histological features is the presence of small, round empty spaces surrounding infiltrating tumor nests. If detected, even a small focus of micropapillary pattern may be therapeutically significant; the higher proportion of micropapillary component, the worse the prognosis. Radical nephroureterectomy is the treatment of choice even in the setting of superficially invasive disease. Although, MPUC has been well studied in urinary bladder, only a few cases of MPUC in upper urinary tract have been described. We are describing a case of a 79-year old woman with micropapillary urothelial carcinoma involving ureter and review the literature of this rare entity.
