Reusable material Dotaz Zobrazit nápovědu
The known challenge of underutilization of data and biological material from biorepositories as potential resources for medical research has been the focus of discussion for over a decade. Recently developed guidelines for improved data availability and reusability-entitled FAIR Principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability)-are likely to address only parts of the problem. In this article, we argue that biological material and data should be viewed as a unified resource. This approach would facilitate access to complete provenance information, which is a prerequisite for reproducibility and meaningful integration of the data. A unified view also allows for optimization of long-term storage strategies, as demonstrated in the case of biobanks. We propose an extension of the FAIR Principles to include the following additional components: (1) quality aspects related to research reproducibility and meaningful reuse of the data, (2) incentives to stimulate effective enrichment of data sets and biological material collections and its reuse on all levels, and (3) privacy-respecting approaches for working with the human material and data. These FAIR-Health principles should then be applied to both the biological material and data. We also propose the development of common guidelines for cloud architectures, due to the unprecedented growth of volume and breadth of medical data generation, as well as the associated need to process the data efficiently.

A critical lack of personal protective equipment has occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Polylactic acid (PLA), a polyester made from renewable natural resources, can be exploited for 3D printing of protective face masks using the Fused Deposition Modelling technique. Since the possible high porosity of this material raised questions regarding its suitability for protection against viruses, we have investigated its microstructure using scanning electron microscopy and aerosol generator and photometer certified as the test system according to the standards EN 143 and EN 149. Moreover, the efficiency of decontaminating PLA surfaces by conventional chemical disinfectants including 96% ethanol, 70% isopropanol, and a commercial disinfectant containing 0.85% sodium hypochlorite has been determined. We confirmed that the structure of PLA protective masks is compact and can be considered a sufficient barrier protection against particles of a size corresponding to microorganisms including viruses. Complete decontamination of PLA surfaces from externally applied Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans and SARS-CoV-2 was achieved using all disinfectants tested, and human adenovirus was completely inactivated by sodium hypochlorite-containing disinfectant. Natural contamination of PLA masks worn by test persons was decontaminated easily and efficiently by ethanol. No disinfectant caused major changes to the PLA surface properties, and the pore size did not change despite severe mechanical damage of the surface. Therefore, PLA may be regarded as a suitable material for 3D printing of protective masks during the current or future pandemic crises.

A general cobalt-catalyzed N-alkylation of amines with alcohols by borrowing hydrogen methodology to prepare different kinds of amines is reported. The optimal catalyst for this transformation is prepared by pyrolysis of a specific templated material, which is generated in situ by mixing cobalt salts, nitrogen ligands and colloidal silica, and subsequent removal of silica. Applying this novel Co-nanoparticle-based material, >100 primary, secondary, and tertiary amines including N-methylamines and selected drug molecules were conveniently prepared starting from inexpensive and easily accessible alcohols and amines or ammonia.

HYPOTHESIS: Development of highly efficient low-molecular weight gelators (LMWGs) for safe energy storage materials is of great demand. Energy storage materials as fuel gels are often achieved by construction of hybrid organic frameworks capable of multiple noncovalent interactions in self-assembly, which allow tuning required properties at the molecular level by altering individual building blocks of the LMWG. However, LMWGs have limited rechargeable capability due to their chemical instability. EXPERIMENTS: We designed, synthesized and characterized a novel, bio-inspired chiral gemini amphiphile derivative 1 containing N-hexadecyl aliphatic tails from quaternized nicotinamide-based segment and bromide anion showing supergelation ability in water, alcohols, aprotic polar and aromatic solvents, with critical gel concentrations as low as 0.1 and 0.035 wt% in isopropanol and water, respectively. FINDINGS: Nanostructural architecture of the network depended on the solvent used and showed variations in size and shape of 1D nanofibers. Supergelation is attributed to a unique asymmetric NH⋯OC, H⋯Br- hydrogen bonding pattern between H-2 hydrogens from nicotinamide-based segment, amide functional groups from chiral trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamide-based segment and bromide ions, supporting the intermolecular amide-amide interactions appearing across one strand of the self-assembly. Gels formed from 1 exhibit high stiffness, self-healing, moldable and colorable properties. In addition, isopropanol gels of 1 are attractive as reusable, shape-persistent non-toxic fuels maintaining the chemical structure with gelation efficiency for at least five consecutive burning cycles.

In this work, we report on the efficient removal of heavy metal ions with nanostructured lithium, sodium and potassium titanates from simulated wastewater. The titanates were obtained via a fast, easy and cost effective process based on extraction of sulfate ions from the crystals of titanyl sulfate and their replacement with hydroxyl groups of NaOH, LiOH and KOH solutions leaving the Ti-O framework intact. The as-prepared titanates were carefully examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Furthermore, the effect of contact time, pH, annealing temperature, together with adsorption in real conditions including competitive adsorption and reusability were studied. It was found that the maximum adsorption capacity, as calculated from the Langmuir adsorption model, is up to 3.8 mmol Pb(ii) per g, 3.6 mmol Cu(ii) per g and 2.3 mmol Cd(ii) per g. Based on the characterization results, a possible mechanism for heavy metal removal was proposed. This work provides a very efficient, fast and convenient approach for exploring promising materials for water treatment.

Adsorption and advanced oxidation processes, especially photocatalysis, are amongst the most common water treatment methodologies. Unfortunately, using each of these techniques independently does not fully eliminate the pollutants of diverse nature, which are present in wastewater. Here, an avenue for multifunctional materials for water treatment is opened by reporting for the first time the preparation, characterization, and study of the properties of a novel multifunctional nanocomposite with both adsorption and visible-light-driven photocatalysis abilities. These multifunctional nanocomposites, namely iron (II, III) oxide/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-methacrylic acid)/silver-titanium dioxide (Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA)/Ag-TiO2), are prepared by combining magnetic polymeric microspheres (Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA)) with silver-decorated titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Ag-TiO2 NPs). Cationic dyes, such as basic fuchsin (BF), can be adsorbed by the nanocomposites thanks to the carboxylic groups of Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA) microspheres. Concomitantly, the presence of Ag-TiO2 NPs endows the system with the visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation ability toward antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin (CIP) and norfloxacin (NFX). Furthermore, the proposed nanocomposites show antibacterial activity toward Escherichia coli (E. coli), thanks to the presence of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Due to the superparamagnetic properties of iron (II, III) oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), the nanocomposites can be also recycled and reused, after the cleaning process, by using an external magnetic field.

The excess fluoride in drinking water is serious risk which leads to fluorosis. The adsorption method is facile route for defluoridation studies. Hybrid adsorbent possesses unique advantages like high surface area and high stability has been employed for water treatment. In the present work, hydrotalcite (HT) fabricated Ce-metal organic frameworks (MOFs) bridged with biopolymers (alginate and chitosan) namely HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads was developed and employed towards fluoride removal in batch mode. The fabricated HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS beads were analyzed by DTA, FTIR, SEM, EDAX, TGA and XRD studies. Besides, FTIR and EDAX proved the affinity of HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads on fluoride was majorly attributed by electrostatic interaction, ion-exchange and complexation mechanism. To include detail insight into adsorption route; the kinetics, thermodynamic and isotherm studies were investigated for fluoride adsorption. The equilibrium data of HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads for fluoride adsorption was fitted with Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic investigation results demonstrated that the fluoride adsorption was spontaneous with endothermic nature. The regeneration and field investigation results revealed that the developed HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads are reusable and more apt at field environment.

BACKGROUND: The NORMAN Association (https://www.norman-network.com/) initiated the NORMAN Suspect List Exchange (NORMAN-SLE; https://www.norman-network.com/nds/SLE/) in 2015, following the NORMAN collaborative trial on non-target screening of environmental water samples by mass spectrometry. Since then, this exchange of information on chemicals that are expected to occur in the environment, along with the accompanying expert knowledge and references, has become a valuable knowledge base for "suspect screening" lists. The NORMAN-SLE now serves as a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) chemical information resource worldwide. RESULTS: The NORMAN-SLE contains 99 separate suspect list collections (as of May 2022) from over 70 contributors around the world, totalling over 100,000 unique substances. The substance classes include per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals, pesticides, natural toxins, high production volume substances covered under the European REACH regulation (EC: 1272/2008), priority contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) and regulatory lists from NORMAN partners. Several lists focus on transformation products (TPs) and complex features detected in the environment with various levels of provenance and structural information. Each list is available for separate download. The merged, curated collection is also available as the NORMAN Substance Database (NORMAN SusDat). Both the NORMAN-SLE and NORMAN SusDat are integrated within the NORMAN Database System (NDS). The individual NORMAN-SLE lists receive digital object identifiers (DOIs) and traceable versioning via a Zenodo community (https://zenodo.org/communities/norman-sle), with a total of > 40,000 unique views, > 50,000 unique downloads and 40 citations (May 2022). NORMAN-SLE content is progressively integrated into large open chemical databases such as PubChem (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) and the US EPA's CompTox Chemicals Dashboard (https://comptox.epa.gov/dashboard/), enabling further access to these lists, along with the additional functionality and calculated properties these resources offer. PubChem has also integrated significant annotation content from the NORMAN-SLE, including a classification browser (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/classification/#hid=101). CONCLUSIONS: The NORMAN-SLE offers a specialized service for hosting suspect screening lists of relevance for the environmental community in an open, FAIR manner that allows integration with other major chemical resources. These efforts foster the exchange of information between scientists and regulators, supporting the paradigm shift to the "one substance, one assessment" approach. New submissions are welcome via the contacts provided on the NORMAN-SLE website (https://www.norman-network.com/nds/SLE/). SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1186/s12302-022-00680-6.

Walnut shells and apricot pits were used to produce non-activated, air-activated and steam-activated biochar. The specific surface area decreased in the order steam-activated (500-727 m 2.g-1), air-activated (59-514 m2.g-1) and non-activated biochars (1.71-236 m2.g-1). The results indicated that water steam created a multi-layer block structure with a well-developed porous structure, especially at 900 °C, while activation with air resulted in a more fragmented structure with a higher amount of coarse pores, leading to lower specific surface values. Acetone sorption experiments were performed in order to determine the acetone sorption capacity and to evaluate the acetone sorption kinetics of the biochars, as well as to identify the possible mechanism of sorption. The maximum sorption capacity estimated from the adsorption isotherms up to a relative pressure of 0.95 ranged from 60.3 to 277.3 mg g-1, and was highest in the steam-activated biochar with the largest surface area. The acetone adsorption isotherms were fitted with different adsorption models, where the Fritz-Schlunder model showed the best fitting results. The adsorption kinetics was evaluated using two kinetics models - pseudo first order and pseudo second order. The results indicated that the biochars with a large surface area exhibited physical sorption through van der Waals forces as the dominant mechanism, while acetone sorption on samples with a smaller surface area can be attributed to a mixed dual sorption mechanism, which combines physical sorption and chemisorption on oxygen functional groups. The perfect reusability of the biochars was confirmed by four consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles.

Proper respiratory tract protection is the key factor to limiting the rate of COVID-19 spread and providing a safe environment for health care workers. Traditional N95 (FFP2) respirators are not easy to regenerate and thus create certain financial and ecological burdens; moreover, their quality may vary significantly. A solution that would overcome these disadvantages is desirable. In this study a commercially available knit polyester fleece fabric was selected as the filter material, and a total of 25 filters of different areas and thicknesses were prepared. Then, the size-resolved filtration efficiency (40-400 nm) and pressure drop were evaluated at a volumetric flow rate of 95 L/min. We showed the excellent synergistic effect of expanding the filtration area and increasing the number of filtering layers on the filtration efficiency; a filter cartridge with 8 layers of knit polyester fabric with a surface area of 900 cm2 and sized 25 × 14 × 8 cm achieved filtration efficiencies of 98% at 95 L/min and 99.5% at 30 L/min. The assembled filter kit consists of a filter cartridge (14 Pa) carried in a small backpack connected to a half mask with a total pressure drop of 84 Pa at 95 L/min. In addition, it is reusable, and the filter material can be regenerated at least ten times by simple methods, such as boiling. We have demonstrated a novel approach for creating high-quality and easy-to-breathe-through respiratory protective equipment that reduces operating costs and is a green solution because it is easy to regenerate.
