Příspěvek teoreticko-přehledového charakteru je věnován komunikačnímu významu an-glického jazyka a problematice výuky angličtiny ve zdravotnických oborech s důrazem na pragmatický význam této výuky z hlediska dorozumívacího a epistemologického. Obsah příspěvku vychází z autorovy dlouholeté pedagogické zkušenosti a z rešeršní činnosti v databázích PubMed, ScienceDirect, Medvik.

The present theoretical-review article discusses significance of the English language in professional communication and some issues related to English language teaching in health care-oriented study programmes with an emphasis on pragmatic aspects of the teaching process in terms of communication and epistemology. The article is based on a long-term teaching experience and on literature search performed in PubMed, Scien-ceDirect and Medvik databases.
