Sclerosis multiplex je komplexné chronické ochorenie s bohatou neurologickou symptomatológiou i náročným manažmentom. Predpokadá sa, že v Slovenskej republike by malo žiť okolo 3-5000 ľudí. trpiacich touto chorobou. Autori analyzujú výsledky dotazníkovej akcie, uskutočnenej v Košickom a Prešovskom kraji od 1. 11. 1999 do 30. 6. 2000. Oslovili 270 respondentov s klinicky definovanou sclerosis multiplex - 176 žien a 94 mužov. Získané údaje poskytujú informatívny prehľad o výskyte. úrovni diagnostiky a liečby ochorenia, ako i kvalite života respondentov, žijúcich na východnom Slovensku.

Multiple sclerosis is a complex chronic disease with an ample neurological symptomatology and needs pretentious management. It is assumed that in the Slovak Republic there are some 3-5000 subjects suffering firom this disease. The authors analyze the results of a questionnaire survey implemented in the Košice and Prešov region between Nov 1,1999 and Jun 30, 2000. They addressed 270 respondents with clinically defined multiple sclerosis - 176 women and 94 men. The assembled data provide information on the prevalence, diagnostic standard and treatment of the disease as well as on the quality of life of respondents living in eastern Slovakia.
