First outcomes of a research project called Evaluation of treatment outcomes in therapeutic communities (TCs) present a clients profile. The project is a prospective, longitu- dinal, cohort research aimed at evaluation of treatment outcomes in TCs, one year after completing the treatment. The report goes from those project goals that are monitoring clients' changes in following areas: drug use and alcohol consumption, mental and physical health, criminality, social functioning, quality of life. The sample involves clients from five TCs, recruited during 2007 and 2008. Presented data were collected by questionaires in 2007 - the first year of the study. The sample involves 104 clients and 73 (70%) of them are methamphetamine users. The inquiry took place always just in the begin- ning of client«s treatment. The data present methamphetamine users profile in TCs and partially answer following questions: Which characteristics do our clients enter the treatment with? What is the profile of clients in TC? As we have said, methamphetamine users form a major part of Czech TCs cli- ents. According to the results, their profiles of drug use, criminality, social functioning and other variables use to be serious which means special requirements on TCs. Martin Sefranek graduated in 2004 from Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Philosophy, Social Work Department (M.A.). Recently he studies in Ph.D. programme at the same university, Social Work and Sociology Department. The theme of his thesis is „Evaluation of treatment outcomes in therapeutic communities“. He works as a therapist and social worker in Therapeutic community Nemcice, which is a part of SANANIM, an NGO working on the field of drug addiction treatment and prevention. Professional interests: therapeutic community, group therapy, research aimed at evaluation facilities for drug users, methodology of adictology research, drug using in communism era at 70's and 80's in Czechoslovakia.
