The authors address the situation in foreign objects in the patient's bodies after a surgery in CZ and worldwide. They provide current data from the literature, such as that for example a surgical drape is left approximately once a year in a medium size hospital and related mortality is 50%. (No such data have been obtained in the Czech Republic). The authors have sent a questionnaire to all healthcare facilities n CZ with response rate of 5 out of 150. This fact makes them believe that the healthcare professionals in surgical fields have not yet understand that sharing a negative experience can motivate other colleagues to prevent similar mistakes.
