Radioterapie patří k základním léčebným modalitám, které se používají v terapii nádorových onemocnění v oblasti hlavy a krku. Její význam byl v posledních letech výrazně posílen technickým pokrokem, který zavedením nových schémat léčby a moderních zdrojů záření umožnil dosáhnout lepších terapeutických výsledků. Autor postupně vysvětluje základní pojmy a principy související s moderními technikami radioterapie. Od konformní radioterapie se přes využití technik IMRT, IGRT a alterovaných frakcionačních schémat postupně dostává až k nejmodernějším technikám současné radioterapie – využití simultánního integrovaného boostu či adaptivní radioterapie. Každá část je podpořena řadou literárních odkazů. Součástí prezentace není kombinace s jinými modalitami protinádorové léčby, např. chemoterapií či biologickou léčbou, jimiž se zabývají další články sestavené do souhrného čísla tohoto časopisu.

Radiotherapy is one of the basic therapeutic modalities used in the therapy of head and neck cancer. Its importace has been significantly improved in recent years by technological progress which thanks to new theatment schemes and modern sources of radiation allowed to achieve better therapeutic results. Author gradually explains the basic concepts and principles associated with modern radiotherapy techniques. From conformal radiotherapy through the using of IMRT, IGRT and alfred fractionation schemes is comming up to the most modern radiotherapy techniques in the present – such as simultaneous integrated boost or adaptive radiotherapy. Each section is supported by a number of literary sources. There´s not presented in this presentation the combination of radiotherapy with other modalities of cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or targeted therapy. These are discussed in other articles assembled in this journal.
