Pacienti s diabetes mellitus sú vystavení riziku vzniku rôznych komplikácií, pričom ich veľká časť je priamo alebo nepriamo spojená s poškodením periférneho alebo centrálneho nervového systému. Cieľom predloženej práce je oboznámenie čitateľov so spektrom možných komplikácií v oblasti periférneho nervového systému spojených s diabetes mellitus. V práci je relatívne podrobne opísaný klinický obraz rôznych typov a foriem neuropatie a ich diagnostika vrátane nových diagnostických metód detekcie neuropatie. Práca podáva aj prehľad recentných odpo- rúčaní pre liečbu diabetickej neuropatie.

Patients with diabetes mellitus are at risk of developing a variety of complica tions, and a large part of their are as- sociated directly or indirectly to the peripheral and / or central nervous system. The objective of this work is to ac- quaint readers with a variety of potential complications in the peripheral nervous system associated with diabetes mellitus. The thesis describes in detail the relative clinical features of diff erent types and forms of neuropathy, in- cluding diagnosis and new diagnostic methods for detection of neuropathy. Thesis gives an overview of the recom- mendations recently for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy.
