Liečba inzulínovou pumpou u diabetikov 1. typu má priaznivý vplyv na zlepšenie metabolickej kontroly a kvality života. V súčasnosti používané pumpy sú spoľahlivé, malé, ľahké a čoraz sofistikovanejšie. Vývoj technológií inzulínových púmp zjednodušuje technické aspekty pri užívaní tohto zariadenia. Implantovateľné a bezhadičkové náplasťové inzulínové pumpy zvyšujú pohodlie pacienta. Subkutánna aplikácia, ako tradičný spôsob podávania inzulínu pri liečbe diabetes mellitus, je pre mnohých pacientov nepohodlná a bolestivá. Sľubným riešením by mohli byť inteligentné inzulínové systémy reagujúce na glykémiu.

The insulin pump treatment in patients with type 1 diabetes has a beneficial effect on improvement of their metabolic control and quality of life. The current pumps are reliable, small and light, and are becoming more and more sophisticated. Development in insulin pump technology simplifies the technical aspects of using this device. Implanted insulin pumps and tubeless patch pumps enhance patient´s comfort. Subcutaneous injection as the traditional insulin administration in the diabetes treatment is for many patients inconvenient and painful. Smart glucose- responsive insulin delivery systems could be the promising solutions.
