Androgenní deprivace (ADT – androgen deprivation therapy) je zásadní komponentou léčby pacien tů s karcinomem prostaty. Relugolix do této terapie přináší novou kvalitu, jedná se o první perorální ADT, jejíž účinnost byla ověřena v klinické studii. V registrační studii HERO byla kastrační hladina testosteronu dosažena a přetrvávala u 97 % mužů v rameni s relugolixem vs. u 89 % mužů léčených leuprolidem po dobu 48 týdnů. Nástup účinku relugolixu byl výrazně rychlejší než u agonisty GnRH a v rameni s relugolixem byl zaznamenán také významně nižší výskyt kardiovaskulárních nežádoucích účinků

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the main component of treatment of patients with prostate cancer. Relugolix brings a new quality to this therapy; it is the first oral ADT with proven efficacy in a clinical trial. In the HERO registration trial, castration level of testosterone was achieved and sustained in 97% of patients in the relugolix arm vs in 89% of patients treated with leuprolide for 48 weeks. The onset of action of relugolix was much faster than that of the GnRH agonist, and there was also a significantly lower incidence of cardiovascular adverse events in the relugolix arm.
