Neléčená nebo nedostatečně léčená bolest je jedním z nejčastějších zdravotních problémů, který narůstá s rostoucím věkem populace. U této starší populace je častější výskyt především degenerativních revmatických onemocnění. K dispozici je řada možností léčby, většinou však s jedním mechanismem účinku a omezeným dávkováním kvůli bezpečnosti a stropu účinnosti. V současnosti se klade důraz na maximální využití potenciálu stávajících analgetik pomocí jejich kombinací. Kombinace léků z různých tříd s odlišnými a doplňujícími se mechanismy účinku umožňuje účinnější analgezii při nižších dávkách, což snižuje nežádoucí účinky. Fixní kombinace dávkování nabízí výhody oproti samostatnému podávání dostupných léků na bolest.

Untreated or undertreated pain is one of the most common health problems that is increasing as the population ages. In this older population, the incidence of degenerative rheumatic diseases in particular is more common. There are a number of treatment options available, but mostly with a single mechanism of action and limited dosing due to safety and efficacy ceiling. Currently, the emphasis is on maximizing the potential of existing analgesics by using combinations of them. Combining drugs from different classes with different and complementary mechanisms of action allows for more effective analgesia at lower doses, reducing adverse effects. Fixed-dose combinations offer advantages over single administration of available pain medications.
