Examination of Ticks in Western Bohemia for the Presence of Spirochete Borrelia Burgdorferi. Comparison of Microscopic Detection and the Polymerase Chain Reaction. Microscopic examination and polymerase chain reaction were compared for the detection of Borreha burgdorferi in ticks in Western Bohemia. The results correlated in 44 of 65 cases, that means in 67.7 %; iň 17 cases PCR was positive and microscopy negative and 4 ticks were positive on microscopic examination and PCR negative. The PCR is important for detection especially when microscopy is negative. Both methods revealed 23.1 % positive ticks.
