V etiopatogenezi roztroušené sklerózy mozkomíšní se uplatňují jak geneticky podmíněné, tak zevní-environmentální faktory. Autoři se zaměřují zejména na metabolismus esenciálních mastných kyselin N-6 i N-3 řady a diskutují i nutriční aspekty problému. Při nutričních doporučeních u roztroušené sklerózy bude zřejmě důležité najít vyvážený poměr N-3 a N-6 esenciálních mastných kyselin a dalších faktorů souvisejících s jejich metabolismem a biologickými účinky. Jedná se o problematiku, se kterou je třeba při úvahách o podstatě onemocnění, jeho léčbě i plánování výzkumu počítat.

In the etiopathogenesis of multiple cerebrospinal sclerosis genetically conditioned as well as external environmental factors are involved. The authors focus their attention in particular on the metabolism of essential fatty acids of the N-6 and N-3 series and discuss also the nutritional aspects of the problem. In nutritional recommendations for patients with multiple sclerosis it will be obviously important to find a balanced ratio of N-3 and N-6 essential fatty acids and other factors associated with their metabolism and biological effects. It is a problem which must be taken into account in reflections of the etiology of the disease, its treatment and planned research.
