Definice

Acetyl-CoA se účastní biosyntézy mastných kyselin a sterolů, oxidace mastných kyselin a metabolismu mnoha aminokyselin. Působí také jako biologické acetylační činidlo. Chemicky se jedná o thioester, na jedné straně koenzym-A, na druhé pak kyselina octová.

Acetyl CoA participates in the biosynthesis of fatty acids and sterols, in the oxidation of fatty acids and in the metabolism of many amino acids. It also acts as a biological acetylating agent.
