Figure skating is a very demanding sport both physically and mentally. The coach should take care to limit the possible risks of the sport and prevent injuries. The main objective of this study was to try to show that young figure skaters aged 7 to 12 years experience muscle imbalances due to four years of regular training. The study population consisted of 7 female figure skaters of younger school age from HC Tábor. The basic characteristics of the participants were the category of the youngest and younger schoolchildren (age = 8.71 ± 1.10, height = 135.5 ± 6.8 cm, weight = 32 ± 6.9 kg). Both Dostalova and Horkel tests were used to test muscle shortening and weakening, based on Jand's functional muscletest. Assessment was by observation from the starting position through the progression of exercise performance to the final position. When assessing the fulfilment of the given criteria of the performed test exercise, we always took into account the whole range of motion, not only its initial and final position. All test exercises were assessed binary. Muscle imbalances in the lumbar, trunk extensors, neck and hamstrings were measured. Muscle imbalances can be compensated by compensatory exercises. The trunk extensor muscles were the most shortened and the muscles on the back of the lower limbs were the most shortened. In addition, the neck muscles were also weakened. Hypermobility proved tobe a major problem.
The aim of the work was to point out the opinions of primary school pupils on seasonal activities in the teaching of physical and sports education at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. 882 pupils from elementary schools from the district of Banska Bystrica participated in the survey. To obtain the necessary information, we used a questionnaire created by us for elementary school students. During the winter months, the most pupils engage in downhill skiing, namely 52.27% of boys and 57.63% of girls. The second greatest interest is in snowboarding, which is preferred by 30.16% of boys and 18.76% of girls. A surprising finding is that up to 18.07% of boys and 22.16% of girls do not do any wintersports. The contribution is part of the grant KEGA 032UMB-4/2022 Innovative teaching materials for teachers of physical and sports education in primary schools with a focus on winter seasonal movement activities.
The impact of two different passive recovery durations, two and three minutes, between sets of repeated sprint skating ability (RSSA) test on skating speed, speed decrement (Sdec), and heart rate (HR) response of ice hockey forwards (n = 12) and defensemen (n = 7) were determined. Six sets of 3 × 80 m sprint, with two-minute passive recovery between two consecutive sets, were performed in RSSA-2. A three-minute passive recovery period between two consecutive sets was allowed in RSSA-3. Skating speed, Sdec, and HR were measured in all tests. Subjects skated faster (p < 0.05) in most of the RSSA-3 sets than the corresponding set of RSSA-2. Defensemen were slower (p < 0.05) than forwards in most of the cases. The Sdec was higher in defensemen than in forwards, although the difference was significant occasionally. No difference in peak HR and minimum HR between forwards and defensemen was found. RSSA-3 is beneficial over RSSA-2 in both forwards and defensemen by increasing speed. Defensemen are slower and show early fatigability than forwards, and no difference in HR response was noted between forwards and defensemen. This study concludes that three-minute recovery is beneficial over two-minute recovery by increasing skating speed, although Sdec and HR response neither vary significantly between RSSA-2 and RSSA-3, nor between forwards and defensemen.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of two different rest periods, 2 min and 3 min, between consecutive sets of a repeated sprint skating ability (RSSA) test, on the skating ability of ice hockey players. Two RSSA tests, RSSA-2 and RSSA-3, were assessed on 24 ice hockey players. In RSSA-2, six sets of 3 × 80 m sprint skating, with 2 min passive recovery between two consecutive sets was allowed. In RSSA-3, the recovery period between the sets was 3 min. Average speed, average heart rate (HRaver), peak heart rate (HRpeak), blood lactate concentration ([BLa]), and rate of perceived exertion (RPE) were measured in both RSSA-2 and RSSA-3 tests. In all the sets, except set 1, the average speed of the subjects was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in RSSA-3 than the respective set in RSSA-2. Average HR and RPE were higher in RSSA-2 than RSSA-3 in most of the sets. For any given set, no difference in HRpeak was noted between RSSA-2 and RSSA-3. Post-sprint (Set 6) [BLa] was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in RSSA-3 than RSSA-2. This study concludes that the 3 min rest period is more beneficial than the 2 min rest period, for (1) increasing skating speed and (2) reducing overall cardiac workload and perceived fatigue.

The aim of this study is to showcase possibilities of electromyography analysis of open movement skills with regards to symmetry of individual steps of chosen cyclic skill. It is a case study where 36 year old skiing instructor was used as a proband. Comparison of kinematic analysis and measuring of electric activities of chosen muscles using electromyography were two basic methods we used. The results of symmerty evaluation using ASI coefficient (3,72 - 6,62) are showing that movements during all kinds of skating techniques are not absolutely symmetric, but level of assymetry is very low. The movements are not exactly the same but they are similar. From the kinesiology point of view we can call this quasisymmetric locomotion. Variation coeficient seems useful to assess stability of skill execution by using length of stride. Variation range can be used to exactly assess stride variability of skating technique.

The skiing is a very old human locomotion on the snow. During the last century, it has became very popular winter and Olympic sport, currently profiting from its great popularity among the public. New cross country skiing technique – skating – has been developing very dynamically since the eighties years of the 20th century. This presented study deals with a comparison of muscles activation during skating technique on skis and on roller skis. We studied three base styles of skating: V-1 on right and left side and V-2. The beginnings of important activation of the muscles on a right leg and their subsequent deactivation during one step cycle were measured with surface electromyography (SEMG). The results confirm the idea that we can consider roller skiing as a special training device of cross country skiing. This is correct from the kinetic view as well as from the connection of muscles. The biggest differences in phase shifts of muscle unit activation were found between V-1 on left side during cross country skiing and roller skiing.
