Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs) are known as a religious group compliant with the national laws in the case of smoking, but not-compliant when it comes to blood treatment. Their beliefs prevent them from taking part in a blood transfusion, which is widely included in standard methods of a life-saving treatment. The aim of this study was to compare the behavior of JWs regarding their approach to blood treatment and to smoking in relation to legal regulations in the field of health. We measured JWs' compliance with health laws regarding blood treatment and smoking (the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control-FCTC). We used the concept of a semi-autonomous social field by Moore and the theory of planned behavior developed by Ajzen. Our findings show that in the case of JWs, the group rules often prevail over state rules contained in generally-binding legislation. In the case of smoking, this means that they seem compliant to the FCTC and to their group rules. In the case of blood treatment, it seems that they are breaking the national rules, because of their group rules. Breaking the latter can result in exclusion from the JWs community. JWs are compliant with national laws as long as these are congruent with their own group rules. If this is not the case, the group influence is very strong and the fear of exclusion from the JW group is often greater than the potential negative health consequences in real life.

K požadavkům na tuto péči patří kromě znalosti existujících koncepčních modelů i znalost a umění interkulturní komunikace či uvědomění si významu otázek spojených s konfesí.
Background: Globalization has reached a point where interaction with people from different sociocultural backgrounds is an integral part of everyday life for all of us. The growing number of migrants is noticeable in the field of health care around the world. Care of women with migratory experience is now common in midwife practice. Those mentioned facts covers concepts of transcultural nursing and the needs of theory and practice. The midwife care should be based on an individualized partnership with a woman, which will allow interventions to be adapted to current uniqe needs.Aim: The aim of this article is to find and connect theoretical aspects and specifics of midwife practice, which can be crucial in providing nursing care for a woman with different sociocultural background. Methods: The review article is a theoretical research based on a study and analysis of available professional publications in printed and electronic form. Those information was drawn from the total number of 24 domestic and foreign reference sources, which are listed in the Literature section at the end of the article. Results: Selected theoretical aspects associated with the transcultural nursing care were connected and applied in the field of midwery. The research strategy based on literature sources provided focus on the Partnership model concept which was unpublished in Czech translation until now. These concept seems to be an effective tool for identifying individual peculiarities with the benefit of focusing on the cultural differences of the each woman´s uniqe needs. Conclusion: The presented information trace information trace theoretical context of the most important aspects of trancultural care in midwifery. In addition to knowledge of existing conceptual model tools, the requirements for this care include also intercultural communication skills or awareness of the importance of issues related to confession. Both communication and faith are directly connected with the cultural or ethnic identity of each woman and are always completely individual. To understand the current state of the issue, a short historical excursion is attached to selected chapters.

BACKGROUND: There are 20 million living US armed forces veterans; however, the organ donation attitudes of veterans have not been examined. METHODS: Over a 17-month period, a convenience sample of 1517 veterans in New England completed a survey to assess attitudes about organ, tissue, and vascularized composite allograft (VCA) donation. RESULTS: Most veterans (96%) supported the donation of organs and tissue for transplantation, and 59% were registered as an organ and tissue donor. Being younger (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 0.960.970.98; P = 0.01), female (aOR: 1.061.462.03; P = 0.02), non-Hispanic white (aOR: 1.302.073.30; P = 0.01), Hispanic (aOR: 1.282.434.61; P = 0.01), and having more trust that the transplant process is fair and equal (aOR: 1.191.401.65; P = 0.01) were predictive of donor registration. Also, most veterans were willing to donate their face (57%), hands/arms (81%), legs (81%), penis (men: 61%), and uterus (women: 76%) at time of death; donation willingness was higher for upper and lower limbs than for face or genitourinary organs (P < 0.001). Those unwilling to donate VCA organs expressed concerns about identity loss, psychological discomfort of self and others, body integrity, funeral presentation, and religious beliefs. Most (54%) felt that VCA donation should require permission of legal next-of-kin at the time of one's death, even if the decedent was a registered donor. CONCLUSIONS: There is a high level of support for organ, tissue, and VCA transplantation and donation among veterans, despite limited educational campaigns targeting this population. There is high potential among veterans to further increase donor registry enrollment and raise awareness about VCA benefits for severely injured service members.
