The current study was designed to bridge a sporting event typological and geographical gap by investigating evidence of the economic impact of five small-scale sports events in the Western region of the United States. Utilizing the input-output economic impact equation established by the Sports Event and Tourism Association, data was collected from participants and spectators through on-site intercept surveys. Data was analyzed using the traditional calculations for economic impact as well as offering real-time economic impact data using an sporting event intercept survey procedure. Results showed small-scale events impact the economy of their host city positively, mainly by filling hotel rooms that would otherwise have gone vacant. Results also show that real-time economic impact data may prove more reliable to future decisions of cities hosting events. Previous research on mid-sized cities hosting sporting events as well as the current research related to small-scale sporting events proves more beneficial than large-scale sporting events in large-sized cities. Given the information from the current study, local sports commissions and political figures may effectively advocate hosting small-scale events to their public using the justification of economic impact (traditional or real-time). Additionally, stakeholders of such events should consider maintaining or expanding the current inventory of small-scale events throughout the calendar year.
The research examines the influence of long-term sponsorship on congruence (perceived consensus) of personal characteristics between Škoda Auto and sponsored international sport events such as the Ice Hockey World Championship and Tour de France. To identify personalities of these three subjects' brands we used a standardised personality scale created by Geuens, Weijters and De Wulf in 2009, which was developed to measure brands of various product categories. To measure personality congruence we used the absolute differentiation method (Gwinner & Eaton, 1999). Data were collected via online questionnaires in January and February 2015. The research file formed a quote sample of 250 Prague respondents. Personal characteristics were evaluated via a seven-point Likert's scale expressing a degree of agreement or disagreement. The results show that the Škoda Auto brand is mostly characterized by the Responsibility dimension, whereas the brands of international sport events such as the Ice Hockey World Championship and Tour de France are mostly characterized by the Activity dimension. Respondents marked Aggresivity and Emotionality as undescriptive dimensions of Škoda Auto, and Simplicity and Emotionality as undescriptive dimensions of international sport events.

The size of national team market values and their effect on results achieved at the 2018 Football World Cup in Russia is examined for determination dependency. The size of the team market value is determined by the sum of the market values of all players on the team. The total market value of teams is then related to their success (or failure) at the World Cup, which is expressed by the total number of points earned. The results of the correlation and regression analysis show moderate influence of market value on results achieved at the 2018 World Cup. The correlation coefficient was 0.57. The distance from the regression line represents the deviation from the regression to the predicted result, and establishes a resulting effectiveness value for each team. The Croatian team was the furthest away from the regression line, thus is considered to be the most effective team relative to its market value. The least effect team was Germany. The results are compared with previous top football event results.
Sportovní aktivity nepochybně patří mezi významné faktory, kterými lze ovlivnit u jedinců vznik a rozvoj kardiovaskulárních onemocnění. Cílem tohoto příspěvku bylo zjistit, popsat a vyhodnotit souvislosti výše finančních prostředků vynakládaných občany ČR do sportovních aktivit v kontextu prevence a léčby kardiovaskulárních onemocnění v relaci se vzděláním, zaměstnáním a rodinným stavem respondentů. Výzkum byl realizován s využitím kvantitativní výzkumné strategie, pomocí nestandardizovaného dotazníku. Výzkumný výběrový soubor složený z 1 992 občanů ČR (937 mužů a 1 055 žen) svou strukturou odpovídal složení všech občanů ČR a vykazuje znaky reprezentativnosti z hlediska regionů (krajů), pohlaví a věku. Ve vztahu k zaměstnání více do sportovních aktivit investují občané v zaměstnaneckém poměru a podnikatelé, méně naopak starobní a invalidní důchodci.
Sports activities are important factors in the prevention of the incidence and development of cardiovascular diseases. The goal of this article was to find out, describe and assess the relationship of the finances spent on sports activities to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases to education, employment and marital status. The research was carried out using the quantitative research strategy (a non-standardized questionnaire). The sample group (1,992 people from the Czech Republic - 937 men and 1,055 women) had the typical structure of the Czech population and was representative from the point of view of regions, gender and age. The results showed statistically significant relationships between the money spent monthly on sports activities to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases. Respondents with a higher level of education invested more money in sports activities than those with a lower level of education. Employed and self-employed people invested more money in sports activities than pensioners. Single people invest more in sports activities; the widowed invest less, which could be caused by the fact that the Czech Republic is undergoing a change in the population structure. These facts provide medical workers with valuable information that can be used in practice. This information can help to make medical consulting regarding sports activities more efficient and so prevent cardiovascular diseases. It also points out the necessity of an individual approach regarding practical recommendations in relation to education, employment and marital status.

During the period from 2007 to 2016, Brazil hosted a number of major sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Rio 2016 Olympics. The planning and organization of these sporting events, from the bidding process to the monitoring of the legacy, required a great involvement of the Brazilian government. The purpose of this study is to present an account and an assessment of the Brazilian government’s actions in relation to these events. The research involved an analysis of government documents in particular those produced by the Ministry of Sport. The results indicated that, apart from the implementation of a policy to promote sport in the country and achieve high-level results in international competition, the engagement of the Brazilian government in such sports mega-events was part of a broad policy focused on international relations, urban change and economic and social development.

The aim of this paper is to map the financial demands of sport in sports clubs from the suburbs of the capital city of Prague - Radotín and Zbraslav. The subjects of this research were children, youth (under 18 years of age) and adults. The study was undertaken with the help of the department of the local municipality council, the websites of the sports clubs and primarily through semi-structured interviews with sports clubs leaders. Tennis (Radotín) and ice-hockey (Zbraslav) were found to be the most financially demanding sports. Direct costs are between 18-20 thousand CZK per year. On the other hand among low cost sports were identified pétanque and volleyball in Radotín, and fishing (both localities). The average costs per month for sport for children and youth in sports clubs (excluding tennis and ice-hockey) are 466 CZK (Radotín) and 533 CZK (Zbraslav). Paradoxically sport activity for adults in sports clubs are cheaper than children and youth: 466 CZK in Radotín and 533 CZK in Zbraslav (also excluding tennis and ice-hockey). It follows from the survey that the sport associations based in Radotín do, indeed, function better that those situated in Zbraslav. This is especially true with regards to their price policy. They offer more expensive sports, which has a tendency to raise ambitions. In these sports clubs members must pay more money not only for regular training, but also for additional preparation, training camps and entrance fees to various events and so on.

Financial support of the sport from public budgets has a long tradition however sport in comparison with other state priorities needn't be always among top priorities. Lack of direct public resources enforces seeking alternatives. Lottery and gambling seems to be natural object for extra taxation respectively reallocation part of profit to the good purposes scheme including sport. The question is how to do this “reallocation” in proper way. We have noticed many different methods in practice from direct tax transfer to the state budget to reallocation of lottery surplus to sport organization selected by the lottery company. The aim of the paper is to gather alternative approaches to the lottery as a tool for sport financing in selected countries and to identify and discuss relevant and most important variables for the lottery system.

One of the main used reasons for organizing big sports events such as Olympic Games (OG) is that they should have positive effects for the organizing economy. Our paper analyses literature regarding the economic effects for the London OG and some other events to see, if accessible analyses confirm this argument. The findings are rather neutral or negative. The main used method was analysis of documents.
