OBJECTIVE: Both panic disorder (PD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are frequent conditions that can be comorbid. This article reviews the current state of knowledge about the comorbidity of PD and OSA and the effectiveness of therapy in patients with this comorbidity. METHOD: Articles obtained via PubMed and Web of Science search were selected; the publishing date was between January 1990 and December 2022. The applied search terms were: obstructive sleep apnea; panic disorder; CPAP; antidepressants; anxiolytics; antipsychotics. Eighty-one articles were chosen by primary search via keywords. After a complete assessment of the full texts, 60 papers were chosen. Secondary papers from the references of the primary documents were investigated, evaluated for suitability, and included in the list of documents (n = 18). Thus, seventy-eight papers were incorporated into the review article. RESULTS: Studies describe a greater prevalence of panic disorder in OSA patients. So far, there is no data on the prevalence of OSA in PD patients. Limited evidence is found regarding the influence of CPAP treatment on PD, and this evidence suggests that CPAP can partially alleviate PD symptoms. Medication used in PD treatment can significantly impact comorbid OSA, as explored in several studies. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between the two conditions seems bidirectional, and it is necessary to assess OSA patients for comorbid panic disorder and vice versa. Both disorders can worsen the other and must be treated with a complex approach to ensure improvement in patients' physical health and psychological well-being.

The aim of the article is to discuss question if the dogs and their olfactory systems can detect various kinds of human malignant tumours. These scientific experiments and hypotheses started more than 20 years ago. There are referring studies focused on the topic and overview of their results and success rate of dog's distinguishing ability, too. In special laboratory, dogs distinguish the scents from breath, tissues or other body fluids, from the cancer patients and healthy controls. The accuracy of detection was significant and does not depend on the phase of cancer or variety of malignity. All around the world the major part of studies are confirming that dogs are able to detect scent of tumour with high significant sensitivity and specificity. Concurrently these part is discussing field of study of electronic nose and using canine olfactory ability for distinguish another diseases.

Práce předkládá výsledky tří studií případů a kontrol. U karcinomu ledvin při hodnocení vlivu obezity pomocí modelu logistické regrese bylo zjištěné OR 1,44 (95% IS 0,91–2,28). Při hodnocení nadváhy a obezity ve vztahu ke karcinomu jícnu pomocí hrubého OR byla zjištěna statisticky významná inverzní asociace pro nadváhu i obezitu (nadváha OR = 0,38 (95% IS 0,21–0,68), obezita OR = 0,22 (95% IS 0,09–0,51)).
Tumours are the second most frequent cause of death in the Czech Republic. Obesity is given in connection with some tumours and it represents important preventable cause of tumour deaths in population. The aim of the study was to appoint an association between selected types of tumours and obesity and the evidence based medicine compare the results of our studies with published data. The article shows outcomes of three case and control studies. Association between obesity and kidney cancer was found by logistic regression analysis, with OR = 1.44 (95% CI 0.91–2.28). Statistically significant inverse association of overweight and obesity and oesophagus cancer was found using the crude OR = 0.38 (95% CI 0.21–0.68) for overweight and OR = 0.22 (95% CI 0.09–0.51) for obesity. Causal link between overweight and obesity and pancreas cancer was not found.

BACKGROUND: Bedside teaching with evidence-based practice elements, supported by e-learning activities, can play an important role in modern medical education. Teachers have to incorporate evidence from the medical literature to increase student motivation and interactivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An integral part of the medical curricula at Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic) are real paediatric scenarios supplemented with a review of current literature to enhance evidence-based bedside teaching & learning. Searching for evidence is taught through librarian-guided interactive hands-on sessions and/or web-based tutorials followed by clinical case presentations and feedback. RESULTS: Innovated EBM paediatric clerkship demonstrated students' preferences towards web-based interactive bedside teaching & learning. In two academic years (2007/2008, 2008/2009), learning-focused feedback from 106 and 131 students, resp. was obtained about their attitudes towards evidence-based bedside teaching. The assessment included among others the overall level of instruction, quality of practical evidence-based training, teacher willingness and impact of instruction on increased interest in the specialty. There was some criticism about excessive workload. A parallel survey was carried out on the perceived values of different forms of information skills training (i.e. demonstration, online tutorials, and librarian-guided interactive search sessions) and post-training self-reported level of search skills. CONCLUSION: The new teaching/learning paediatric portfolio is a challenge for further activities, including effective knowledge translation, continuing medical & professional development of teachers, and didactic, clinically integrated teaching approaches.
