The authors describe their experience with systemic therapy of cavernous haemangiomas making use of interferon alpha. They have successfully used the method in treating two female patients with cavernous haemangiomas in the orbit. In the first patient, the IFN therapy was followed by surgical removal of the tumour. In the second patient, surgical operation was not suitable. After the IFN therapy, the patient's state improved both subjectively and objectively. Decreased level of bFGF in urine prove to be the criterion for successful treatment by IFN. The authors also stress the risk of complications in sucklings. When choosing the method of treatment, they emphasize the necessity of interdisciplinary cooperation.

Transcaruncular medial orbitotomy is a tissue preserving, time sparing and cosmetically acceptable approach, which is appropriate for treatment of various pathological conditions, as fractures of the medial orbital wall, inflammatory expansions and tumours of adjacent part of the orbit, but also the orbital endokrinopathy and correction of the medial palpebral ligament. Surgical technique and authors' first experience with this approach in female with orbital haemangioma is presented.
The author evaluated three years experience with the treatment of capillary haemangioma of the orbit and eyelids in nine infants. They used several therapeutic methods. However, they injected in all patients depot corticosteroids-Triamcinolone-into the tumour. Indication for treatment was a marked cosmetic defect, imminent amblyopia and progression of the haemangioma. The results of steroid treatment are very good from the cosmetic and functional aspect. Indications for treatment, results and differential diagnostic problems are discussed.
