BACKGROUND: In today's digital age, demanding to interpret vast quantities of visual information with speed and accuracy, nonverbal Intelligence has become increasingly crucial for children, as it plays a key role in cognitive development and learning. While motor proficiency has been positively linked to various cognitive functions in children, its relationship with nonverbal Intelligence remains an open question. This study, therefore, explored the structural associations between motor proficiency and nonverbal Intelligence in school-aged children (6 to 11 years), focusing on potential age and sex-specific patterns. METHODS: Data were obtained from 396 children aged 6 to 11 (214 boys, 182 girls; mean age 8.9 years ±1.3) divided into younger children 6-8 years and older Children 9-11 years. Motor proficiency was assessed using the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Second Edition (BOT-2), and non-verbal Intelligence was evaluated with the Raven Progressive Matrices (RPM). We conducted multigroup structural modelling with non-verbal Intelligence as a dependent latent variable. RESULTS: The BOT-2 and RPM models demonstrated an acceptable fit in Czech children. Strength-agility and Fine motor control emerged as the strongest predictors of nonverbal intelligence level assessed by five sets of RPM. Age-specific analyses revealed that the Strength-agility construct was consistently a significant predictor of nonverbal intelligence level in both age categories. However, in older children, also Fine motor control was significantly linked to nonverbal intelligence level. Sex-specific differences were also observed in the structural modelling results, indicating significant predictor non-invariance based on participants' sex. In girls, both Fine motor control and the Strength-agility constructs were significant predictors of nonverbal Intelligence level, showing stronger associations with nonverbal Intelligence than boys. For boys, only the Strength-agility construct was a significant predictor of RPM performance. CONCLUSION: This study reveals a nuanced age- and sex-specific relationship between children's motor proficiency and nonverbal Intelligence. The findings underscore the need for targeted physical interventions, particularly those emphasising fine motor and strength-agility exercises, to ensure equitable opportunities for motor skill development. Such interventions may enhance physical abilities and support cognitive development in an increasingly digital world.

INTRODUCTION: and Objectives: The clinical presentation of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) differs between genders. This study aimed to identify the specific OSA phenotypes of women in the European Sleep Apnoea Database (ESADA) cohort. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Latent class cluster analysis was applied to data from 9710 female OSA patients. Variables used included age, Body Mass Index (BMI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), comorbidities (cardiovascular, pulmonary, psychiatric, metabolic, other) and the Apnoea Hypopnea Index (AHI). RESULTS: Four different clusters were found: Cluster 1"Women with ischemic heart disease" (38.3 %):middle aged (59 years [53-65]),overweight to obese (BMI 30.1 kg/m2 [26.9-33.5]), AHI 22.9 events/h[17.4-30], ESS 9 [5,12] with the highest prevalence of ischemic heart disease (56 %). Cluster 2"Elderly women with comorbidities" (23 %): oldest (66 years[60-71]), obese (BMI 36 kg/m2 [31.6-40.4]),AHI 46 events/h [30-60.1]),ESS 9 [6-13] with the highest prevalence of comorbidities. Cluster 3"Sleepy obese women" (16.2 %): the youngest (49 years [42-55]), sleepiest (ESS 12 [8-16]), most obese(BMI 43 kg/m2[37.6-48.9]) females with severe OSA (AHI 53.3 events/h [32-80.5]). Cluster 4 "Women with mild OSA and low comorbidities" (22.5 %): middle aged (53.5 years [46-60]) with BMI 29 kg/m2[25-34.1],ESS9 [5,13]),AHI 8.6events/h[6.9-10.4])and low prevalence of comorbidities. The distribution of the clusters differed across Europe. PAP administration was higher in Clusters 2 and 3 but low in Cluster 4. CONCLUSION: Four distinct female phenotypes were identified with different clinical presentation and comorbidities. Sex-based phenotyping may provide improved risk stratification and personalized treatment.

BACKGROUND: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a heterogenous autoimmune disease. While traditionally stratified into two conditions, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), the subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis is subject to continued debate. Here we aim to identify phenotypically distinct subgroups and develop a data-driven subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis, using a large real-world dataset. METHODS: In the collaborative data reuse project FAIRVASC (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable, Vasculitis), registry records of patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis were retrieved from six European vasculitis registries: the Czech Registry of ANCA-associated vasculitis (Czech Republic), the French Vasculitis Study Group Registry (FVSG; France), the Joint Vasculitis Registry in German-speaking Countries (GeVas; Germany), the Polish Vasculitis Registry (POLVAS; Poland), the Irish Rare Kidney Disease Registry (RKD; Ireland), and the Skåne Vasculitis Cohort (Sweden). We performed model-based clustering of 17 mixed-type clinical variables using a parsimonious mixture of two latent Gaussian variable models. Clinical validation of the optimal cluster solution was made through summary statistics of the clusters' demography, phenotypic and serological characteristics, and outcome. The predictive value of models featuring the cluster affiliations were compared with classifications based on clinical diagnosis and ANCA specificity. People with lived experience were involved throughout the FAIRVASVC project. FINDINGS: A total of 3868 patients diagnosed with ANCA-associated vasculitis between Nov 1, 1966, and March 1, 2023, were included in the study across the six registries (Czech Registry n=371, FVSG n=1780, GeVas n=135, POLVAS n=792, RKD n=439, and Skåne Vasculitis Cohort n=351). There were 2434 (62·9%) patients with GPA and 1434 (37·1%) with MPA. Mean age at diagnosis was 57·2 years (SD 16·4); 2006 (51·9%) of 3867 patients were men and 1861 (48·1%) were women. We identified five clusters, with distinct phenotype, biochemical presentation, and disease outcome. Three clusters were characterised by kidney involvement: one severe kidney cluster (555 [14·3%] of 3868 patients) with high C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum creatinine concentrations, and variable ANCA specificity (SK cluster); one myeloperoxidase (MPO)-ANCA-positive kidney involvement cluster (782 [20·2%]) with limited extrarenal disease (MPO-K cluster); and one proteinase 3 (PR3)-ANCA-positive kidney involvement cluster (683 [17·7%]) with widespread extrarenal disease (PR3-K cluster). Two clusters were characterised by relative absence of kidney involvement: one was a predominantly PR3-ANCA-positive cluster (1202 [31·1%]) with inflammatory multisystem disease (IMS cluster), and one was a cluster (646 [16·7%]) with predominantly ear-nose-throat involvement and low CRP, with mainly younger patients (YR cluster). Compared with models fitted with clinical diagnosis or ANCA status, cluster-assigned models demonstrated improved predictive power with respect to both patient and kidney survival. INTERPRETATION: Our study reinforces the view that ANCA-associated vasculitis is not merely a binary construct. Data-driven subclassification of ANCA-associated vasculitis exhibits higher predictive value than current approaches for key outcomes. BACKGROUND: The clinical heterogeneity of myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune disease defined by antibodies (Ab) directed against the postsynaptic membrane, constitutes a challenge for patient stratification and treatment decision making. Novel strategies are needed to classify patients based on their biological phenotypes aiming to improve patient selection and treatment outcomes. METHODS: For this purpose, we assessed the serum proteome of a cohort of 140 patients with anti-acetylcholine receptor-Ab-positive MG and utilised consensus clustering as an unsupervised tool to assign patients to biological profiles. For in-depth analysis, we used immunogenomic sequencing to study the B cell repertoire of a subgroup of patients and an in vitro assay using primary human muscle cells to interrogate serum-induced complement formation. FINDINGS: This strategy identified four distinct patient phenotypes based on their proteomic patterns in their serum. Notably, one patient phenotype, here named PS3, was characterised by high disease severity and complement activation as defining features. Assessing a subgroup of patients, hyperexpanded antibody clones were present in the B cell repertoire of the PS3 group and effectively activated complement as compared to other patients. In line with their disease phenotype, PS3 patients were more likely to benefit from complement-inhibiting therapies. These findings were validated in a prospective cohort of 18 patients using a cell-based assay. INTERPRETATION: Collectively, this study suggests proteomics-based clustering as a gateway to assign patients to a biological signature likely to benefit from complement inhibition and provides a stratification strategy for clinical practice. Multivariate techniques better fit the anatomy of complex neuropsychiatric disorders which are characterized not by alterations in a single region, but rather by variations across distributed brain networks. Here, we used principal component analysis (PCA) to identify patterns of covariance across brain regions and relate them to clinical and demographic variables in a large generalizable dataset of individuals with bipolar disorders and controls. We then compared performance of PCA and clustering on identical sample to identify which methodology was better in capturing links between brain and clinical measures. Using data from the ENIGMA-BD working group, we investigated T1-weighted structural MRI data from 2436 participants with BD and healthy controls, and applied PCA to cortical thickness and surface area measures. We then studied the association of principal components with clinical and demographic variables using mixed regression models. We compared the PCA model with our prior clustering analyses of the same data and also tested it in a replication sample of 327 participants with BD or schizophrenia and healthy controls. The first principal component, which indexed a greater cortical thickness across all 68 cortical regions, was negatively associated with BD, BMI, antipsychotic medications, and age and was positively associated with Li treatment. PCA demonstrated superior goodness of fit to clustering when predicting diagnosis and BMI. Moreover, applying the PCA model to the replication sample yielded significant differences in cortical thickness between healthy controls and individuals with BD or schizophrenia. Cortical thickness in the same widespread regional network as determined by PCA was negatively associated with different clinical and demographic variables, including diagnosis, age, BMI, and treatment with antipsychotic medications or lithium. PCA outperformed clustering and provided an easy-to-use and interpret method to study multivariate associations between brain structure and system-level variables. PRACTITIONER POINTS: In this study of 2770 Individuals, we confirmed that cortical thickness in widespread regional networks as determined by principal component analysis (PCA) was negatively associated with relevant clinical and demographic variables, including diagnosis, age, BMI, and treatment with antipsychotic medications or lithium. Significant associations of many different system-level variables with the same brain network suggest a lack of one-to-one mapping of individual clinical and demographic factors to specific patterns of brain changes. PCA outperformed clustering analysis in the same data set when predicting group or BMI, providing a superior method for studying multivariate associations between brain structure and system-level variables.

Cluster analyzes of facial models of autistic patients aim to clarify whether it is possible to diagnose autism on the basis of facial features and further to stratify the autism spectrum disorder. We performed a cluster analysis of sets of 3D scans of ASD patients (116) and controls (157) using Euclidean and geodesic distances in order to recapitulate the published results on the Czech population. In the presented work, we show that the major factor determining the clustering structure and consequently also the correlation of resulting clusters with autism severity degree is body mass index corrected for age (BMIFA). After removing the BMIFA effect from the data in two independent ways, both the cluster structure and autism severity correlations disappeared. Despite the fact that the influence of body mass index (BMI) on facial dimensions was studied many times, this is the first time to our knowledge when BMI was incorporated into the faces clustering study and it thereby casts doubt on previous results. We also performed correlation analysis which showed that the only correction used in the existing clustering studies-dividing the facial distance by the average value within the face-is not eliminating correlation between facial distances and BMIFA within the facial cohort.

Background: Although trauma exposure is universally prevalent, the ways in which individuals respond to potentially traumatic events vary. Between-country differences have been identified as affecting the development and manifestation of transdiagnostic psychological symptoms, but it remains unclear how stress and trauma-related transdiagnostic symptoms and risk patterns differ based on geographic region.Objective: To explore whether there are distinct classes of stress and trauma-related transdiagnostic symptoms and to determine predictors of class membership in a global sample.Method: Participants (N = 8675) from 115 different countries were recruited online between 2020-2022 and completed the Global Psychotrauma Screen, which assesses stress and trauma exposure, related symptoms, and risk factors. A latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify classes of stress and trauma-related symptoms per world region (African States, Asia-Pacific States, Eastern European States, Latin American and Caribbean States, Western European and Other States, and North America) and the total sample. Likelihood of class membership was assessed based on demographics, characteristics of the potentially traumatic event, and potential risk factors across the world regions.Results: Similar class compositions were observed across regions. A joint latent class analysis identified three classes that differed by symptom severity (i.e. high, moderate, low). Multinomial logistic regression analyses revealed several factors that conferred greater risk for experiencing higher levels of symptoms, including geographic region, gender, and lack of social support, among others.Conclusions: Stress and trauma-related symptoms seem to be similarly transdiagnostic across the world, supporting the value of a transdiagnostic assessment.

BACKGROUND: Over the decades, several natural history studies on patients with primary (PPMS) or secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) were reported from international registries. In PPMS, a consistent heterogeneity on long-term disability trajectories was demonstrated. The aim of this study was to identify subgroups of patients with SPMS with similar longitudinal trajectories of disability over time. METHODS: All patients with MS collected within Big MS registries who received an SPMS diagnosis from physicians (cohort 1) or satisfied the Lorscheider criteria (cohort 2) were considered. Longitudinal Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores were modelled by a latent class growth analysis (LCGA), using a non-linear function of time from the first EDSS visit in the range 3-4. RESULTS: A total of 3613 patients with SPMS were included in the cohort 1. LCGA detected three different subgroups of patients with a mild (n=1297; 35.9%), a moderate (n=1936; 53.6%) and a severe (n=380; 10.5%) disability trajectory. Median time to EDSS 6 was 12.1, 5.0 and 1.7 years, for the three groups, respectively; the probability to reach EDSS 6 at 8 years was 14.4%, 78.4% and 98.3%, respectively. Similar results were found among 7613 patients satisfying the Lorscheider criteria. CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to previous interpretations, patients with SPMS progress at greatly different rates. Our identification of distinct trajectories can guide better patient selection in future phase 3 SPMS clinical trials. Additionally, distinct trajectories could reflect heterogeneous pathological mechanisms of progression.
The benefits of internal communication not only can be associated with higher performance, but also with increased awareness of the values within an organization, setting and achieving objectives, getting involved in beneficial activities, encouraging employees' personal development and, last but not least, educating and motivating employees to take responsibility. A responsible working environment facilitates effective internal communication, which is in line with the principles of the Bata Management System. The aim of this paper is to evaluate whether setting top-down internal communication is in line with the sustainable principles of Tomas Bata in organizations in the Czech Republic. The article assesses workplace communication and relationships, including social sustainability and social responsibility, focusing on their added value for corporate practice in all areas of business. The study is based on quantitative research in organizations across sectors and qualitative research in agricultural organizations (questionnaire survey n1 = 183; focus group n3 = 5), using the tools of descriptive statistics, logistic regression and cluster analysis. The results have shown that combining methods of top-down communication is crucial for communicating information efficiently, stimulating employees and achieving the organization ́s objectives and that Tomas Bata ́s philosophy concerning communication setting can be implemented even more easily in the current digital age than it was in the past if organizations are interested. The research contributes to a better understanding of how the Bata Management System can be applied within each organization, how effective communication settings will help prevent conflicts that workers are engaged in, increase their stabilization, and facilitate the application of Bata's sustainable legacy in the international space. Research makes a significant contribution to advancing knowledge of effective communication from the perspective of Bata for the sustainability of agricultural organizations where the principles have not yet been explored. This is evidenced by the zero overlap with previously published articles despite the rapid progress of research and technology.

BACKGROUND: Global healthcare delivery is challenged by the aging population and the increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes. The extent to which such trends affect the cohort of patients the authors surgically operate on remains to be elucidated. Comprising of 8.7 million surgical patients, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database can be analyzed to investigate the echo of general population dynamics and forecast future trends. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The authors reviewed the ACS-NSQIP database (2008-2020) in its entirety, extracting patient age, BMI, and diabetes prevalence. Based on these data, the authors forecasted future trends up to 2030 using a drift model. RESULTS: During the review period, median age increased by 3 years, and median BMI by 0.9 kg/m2. The proportion of patients with overweight, obesity class I, and class II rates increased. The prevalence of diabetes rose between 2008 (14.9%) and 2020 (15.3%). The authors forecast the median age in 2030 to reach 61.5 years and median BMI to climb to 29.8 kg/m2. Concerningly, in 2030, eight of ten surgical patients are projected to have a BMI above normal. Diabetes prevalence is projected to rise to 15.6% over the next decade. CONCLUSION: General population trends echo in the field of surgery, with the surgical cohort aging at an alarmingly rapid rate and increasingly suffering from obesity and diabetes. These trends show no sign of abating without dedicated efforts and call for urgent measures and fundamental re-structuring for improved future surgical care.
