Literacy is one of the factors influencing the education of not only the sick but also the healthy people in relation to health promotion and protection. Literacy in its original meaning means an elementary ability of an individual to read and write in the early years of elementary school. In recent years, the concept of literacy has been used to express different competences, and many types of literacy are related to this, the article being focused on. Particular attention is paid to health literacy.

- $a Gramotnosť je jedným z faktorov, ktorý ovplyvňuje edukáciu nielen chorých, ale aj zdravých ľudí vo vzťahu k podpore a ochrane zdravia. Gramotnosť v pôvodnom význame znamená elementárnu schopnosť jednotlivca čítať a písať, ktorú získava v počiatočných ročníkoch základnej školy. V posledných rokoch sa pojem gramotnosť používa na vyjadrenie rôznych kompetencií, a s tým súvisia viaceré typy gramotnosti, na charakteristiku ktorých je zameraný článok. Osobitná pozornosť je venovaná zdravotnej gramotnosti.
