Funkční poruchy horní a dolní části trávicího traktu představují v současné době stále velmi frekventovaný a aktuální problém lékařské praxe praktických a odborných lékařů. Tato skupina onemocnění patří k diagnosticky i léčebně komplikovaným chorobám. To je dáno tím, že i při současných patofyziologických znalostech a diagnostických možnostech nelze zcela jednoznačně vždy označit příčinu či kombinaci příčin vzniku funkčních poruch horní a dolní části trávicího traktu. Tento stav má za následek složitost vlastní diagnostiky i následné léčby.

Functional disorders of the upper and lower digestive tract pose a current and common problem in practice to both general practitioners and specialized physicians. The diagnosis as well as treatment of this group of diseases are complicated. A plausible explanation lies in the fact that even the existing pathophysiological knowledge and available diagnostic methods do not always allow unequivocal identification of the cause, or of a combination of causes, underlying the development of functional disorders in the upper and lower digestive tract, which, in turn, makes the diagnosis and treatment difficult.
