V nemocnosti seniorů představují závažnou a specifickou položku – úrazy. Jsou tím častější, čím křehčí je zdravotní a funkční stav seniorů. Závažné úrazy jsou spojeny s vyšší úmrtností než obdobná poranění v mladším věku. Kromě ohrožení života úrazy závažně interferují se soběstačností křehkých geriatrických pacientů. Poranění u mladších dospělých funkčně málo významné a ambulantně řešitelné může znamenat pro geriatrického pacienta balancujícího na hranici soběstačnosti její ztrátu, mnohdy trvalou. Zásadními problémy jsou v problematice úrazovosti seniorů zejména ve vybavení domácností, neznalostí čísel tísňového volání a subjektivně posuzovaný nedostatek informací o rizicích úrazů v této věkové kategorii. Tyto problémy byly vyhodnoceny na základě dotazníkového šetření, které bylo dílčím cílem projektu: Středisko prevence úrazů v Jihočeském kraji IGA MZČR NR8468-3/2005.

Within morbidity of seniors, injuries are a serious and specific component. The more fragile the health and functional condition of seniors, the higher frequency of these injuries is encountered. Severe injuries are associated with a higher mortality compared to injuries in younger population. In addition to threatening the life, the injuries severely interfere with the self-reliance of fragile geriatric patients. Injuries, which may be less important in younger adults and which can be solved within the scope of outpatient care, can sometimes mean even permanent loss of self-reliance in geriatric patients, who frequently live at a very limit of their possible self-reliance. Principal questions are in problems of the abundance of accidents in seniors, mainly in association with equipment of their households, lack of knowledge of emergency telephone numbers and subjectively considered insufficient information about risks of injuries in this age category. These problems were evaluated based on a questionnaire examination, which formed a partial target of the project “Centre of Prevention of Injuries in the South-Bohemian Region” of the Internal Grant Agency of the Czech Ministry of Health NR8468-3/2005.
