Aim: The article introduces readers with the specifics of nursing of the pediatric patients with chronic renal failure and complications associated with this disease. The aim of the study was to show on the exceptional case of a child with chronic renal insufficiency, the complexity as well as the specifics of nursing care. Methods: The method of case reports was used, a source of information was medical records, observation of the child and his family, and structured nonstandardized interview with the child's mother. The subject of case reports was the annual child with chronic renal failure enrolled in the chronic dialysis program from the age of 3 months and hospitalized at irregular intervals in the University Hospital in Ostrava. Results: The case report describes the different periods of child development, experiencing these periods by the family, and characterizes the course of the disease already before the child delivery when the parents were informed about the severity of condition of their unborn child, furthermore the period after the implementation of peritoneal catheter and the initiation of peritoneal dialysis at the age of child of three months, the complications of state of acute peritonitis, sepsis and respiratory insufficiency, difficulties associated with the retardation of psychomotor child development as well as feelings of mother arising from her temporary stay with the child in hospital, a transitional stay with relatives and at home.
