At present, neurostimulation methods in the treatment of pain represent the benefit for patients suffering from intractable chronic pain. In the future, it is expected that neurostimulation methods will not be indicated only after exhaustion of all therapies, but rather will be the first indicator rankings. Chronic pain occurs in up to 30% of the adult population. Neurostimulation methods are mainly used for chronic intractable pain, when long-term treatment was ineffective. In patients with chronic neuropathic pain that lasts longer than six months and is ineffective of first and second-line treatment and/or unacceptable side effects, is recommended to use invasive or non-invasive neurostimulation. Non-interventional stimulation methods: TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation), tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) are described in this article. There are characterised the mode of action, the indications and side effects.
