Posouzení rizika vzniku dekubitů u seniorů v dlouhodobé péči
[Assessment of risk of pressure ulcers in elderly in long-term care]

Aim: The main aim of the research study was to evaluate the correlations between selected tools (Braden scale, Norton scale) evaluating the risk of pressure ulcers in seniors in long-term care and selected variables (self-care, nutritional status) and compare predictive validity of these scales. Methods: The research sample consisted of 104 seniors hospitalized in long-term care facility. Braden scale and Norton scale were used to assess the risk of pressure ulcers. The scales ADL – Activity Daily Living and IADL – Instrumental Activity Daily Living were used to assess the self-care ability. MNA – Mini Nutritional Assessment was used to assess the nutritional status. Data were collected from April to November 2014. Results: The strongest positive correlation (0.9531) was found between Braden scale and ADL. The Braden scale demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 40.9% specificity. The Norton scale demonstrated 100% sensitivity but lower values of 20.5% specificity. Conclusion: Statistically significant dependence between the risk of pressure ulcers and self-care as well as between the risk of pressure ulcers and nutritional status was found. Sensitivity of both scales was high.
