Článek podává přehled objevu a využití chloroformu jako inhalačního anestetika a látek, které mu předcházely nebo ho následovaly, a také osob, které se do této historie významně zapsaly. Prvá část popisuje tři nejstarší inhalační anestetika: éter, oxid dusný a chloroform.
The article presents discovery of chloroform and anaesthetic drugs that preceded its use or followed it as well as notable names connected with this history. Part one deals with the three oldest agents: ether, nitrous oxide and chloroform.
