Narození dítěte s fyzickým, psychickým nebo kombinovaných handicapem nebo získaný handicap u dítěte během života vyžaduje ve většině případů celodenní péči. Významnou část zastávají rodiče. Tito rodiče mohou být ohroženi zátěží a stresem při pečování o své děti více než rodiče dětí bez handicapu. Článek si klade za cíl předložit informace o míře stresu rodičů handicapovaných dětí v porovnání se skupinou rodičů dětí bez handicapu. Pro vyhodnocení míry stresu byl použit standardizovaný výzkumný nástroj Rodičovský stresový index 4 - krátká verze (PSI 4 SF). Výsledky získané od 200 rodičů (100 rodičů dětí bez handicapu a 100 rodičů dětí s handicapem) ukázaly vyšší míru stresu u rodičů dětí s handicapem v oblastech - osobní charakteristice rodiče, v interakci mezi rodičem a dítětem, ve vnímání charakteristik dítěte a v celkovém vyhodnocení indexu stresu.

In most cases, caring for a child with a physical, mental or combined disability requires full-time care. Parents are those who perform a significant part of this care. These parents may be more at risk of burden and stress in caring for their children compared to parents of children without disabilities. The article aims to present information on the level of stress in parents of disabled children in comparison with the group of parents who have children without disabilities. A standardized research tool Parenting stress index 4 - short form (PSI SF) was used to evaluate the degree of stress. Results obtained from 200 parents (100 parents of children without disabilities and 100 parents of children with disabilities) revealed a higher level of stress in parents of children with disabilities in the following areas: personal characteristics of the parent, interaction between parent and child, perception of the characteristics of the child by the parent and in the overall evaluation of stress index.
