Akutní rinosinusitida (ARS) je v ordinaci pediatra, méně často otorinolaryngologa velmi častým onemocněním. V současné době se jak diagnostika, tak léčba řídí doporučeními EPOS 2020. Diagnostika je založena na symptomech nemoci - anamnéze (typ, délka a závažnost potíží) a na klinickém vyšetření. Etiologie je většinou virová (léčba je symptomatická) s event. možnou bakteriální superinfekcí (léčba antibiotiky ATB). Prvním lékem volby je fenoxymetylpenicilin. Většina infektů probíhá nekomplikovaně, k ORL lékaři odesílá praktik pacienta při nezlepšení po 10 dnech, při recidivující ARS nebo při prvních známkách komplikací (tzv. alarmující příznaky).
