Časný záchyt diabetické retinopatie je základní podmínkou důsledné léčby a prevence progrese, která může vyústit v amaurózu. Doporučení vyšetřit každého pacienta s diabetem jednou ročně není v České republice naplňováno. Vyšetření podstoupí každoročně méně než dvě třetiny pacientů. Novou cestou, která umožní zlepšit situaci, je hrazení vyšetření non-mydriatickou fundus kamerou v ordinaci specialisty a vyhodnocení nálezu pomocí programů umělé inteligence. Tato metoda, jejíž senzitivita a specifita se udává v rozmezí 85-90 %, by mohla zlepšit situaci a snížit tak počet nemocných, u kterých se vyvine proliferativní forma – terminální závažná komplikace diabetické retinopatie.

Early detection of diabetic retinopathy is a basic condition for consistent treatment and prevention of progression, which can result in amaurosis. The recommendation to examine every patient with diabetes once a year is not fulfilled in the Czech Republic. Less than two-thirds of patients undergo an examination each year. A new way to improve the situation is to pay for an examination with a non-mydriatic fundus camera in a specialist's office and to evaluate the findings using artificial intelligence programs. This method, whose sensitivity and specificity are reported to be in the range of 85-90%, could improve the situation and thus reduce the number of patients who develop the proliferative form - a serious terminal complication of diabetic retinopathy.
