Mangostan je chutné ovoce tropického stromu Garcinia mangostana, které hraje důležitou úlohu ve výživě a tradiční lidové medicíně mnoha asijských zemí. Obsahuje velké množství biologicky aktivních látek, zejména zdraví prospěšné xanthony, což jsou antioxidanty ze skupiny flavonoidů. Farmakologický výzkum posledních let prokázal, že mangostan a jeho bioaktivní látky mohou najít praktické užití i v moderní medicíně, zejména v terapii nádorů a některých nervových onemocnění.
Mangosteen is a delicious fruit of the tropical tree Garcinia mangostana which plays an important role in the nutrition and traditional folk medicine of many Asian countries. It contains a large amount of biologically active substances, especially healthy xanthones which are antiox- idants from the group of flavonoids. Recent pharmacological research has shown that mangosteen and its bioactive substances can also find practical use in modern medicine, especially in the treatment of tumors and some nervous diseases.
