Historie chirurgické léčby hydrocefalu ie sledována až od začátku 20. století. Je zmíněn příspěvek slavných obecných chinirgů, jakož i neurochirursfů (Cushinga, Dandyho, Hakima, Torkildsena a dalších). Téma je rozděleno do 3 velkých skupin operací: A. Snížení produkce mozkomíšního moku. B. Intrakraniální a extrakraniální zkraty. C. Bypassy v komorovém systému. Je také připomenuta účast českých a slovenských neurochiioirgů na tomto poli.

History of surgical treatment of hydrocephalus is traced as far as to the beginning of 20th century. The contribution of famous general surgeons as well as of neurosurgeons (Gushing, Dandy, Hakim, Torkildsen, and others) is mentioned. The topic is divided into 3 great groups of surgical procedures: A. Lowering of cerebrospinal fluid production. B. Intracranial and extracranial shunts. C. Bypasses in the ventricular system. Participation of Czech and Slovak neurosurgeons on this field is also mentioned.
