Železo (chemická značka Fe, latinsky Ferrum) je nejrozšířenější přechodný kovový prvek a druhý nejrozšířenější kov na Zemi. Má atomové číslo 26 a relativní atomovou hmotnost 55.85. Železo patří mezi tzv. mikrobiogenní prvky, nachází se v hemoglobinech, cytochromech a proteinech vázajících železo. Účastní se buněčných oxidačně-redukčních reakcí a transportu kyslíku.
