Today obesity is a global epidemic and children are the worst affected. Waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist-to-height ratio (WHTR) are the anthropometric indices characterizing central obesity in children, but WC measurement in children is not a routine practice. In the International Diabetes Federation recommendations WC value is offered as a criterion for the metabolic syndrome diagnosis in children instead of body mass index. The work was initiated to determine age- and sex-specific WC reference values in 7-18 year old Uzbek children and adolescents, residents of Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan.

The study on prevalence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) with various severities was conducted in a cohort of fertile female residents of Tashkent aged from 18 to 30. Clinical and medical history data on psycho-emotional and physical PMS symptoms was put into a specially developed card-questionnaire. Severity of symptoms was determined by total score to fill in a PMS symptom scale on the basis of the examinees’ self-observation. The associations of PMS with social-demographic factors, such as, level of education, employment status, sexual satisfaction and stress index were analyzed.
Pituitary adenomas, noncancerous tumors that occur in the pituitary gland, represent from 7% to 24% of all primary intracranial neoplasms. Worldwide the trans-sphenoidal approach is the preferred and more widely spread one. The work was initiated to study early and late complications in patients undergoing surgical treatment for pituitary adenomas via the trans-sphenoidal route at the Neuroendocrinology Department with pituitary neurosurgery, Center for the Scientific and Clinical Study of Endocrinology, Uzbekistan Public Health Ministry.

Treatment efforts in 42 patients with neuroischemic diabetic foot syndrome complicated by toe and foot gangrene of various localizations were assessed. Transluminal balloon angioplasty is thought to be minimally invasive and efficient maneuver in treatment of critical ischemia of lower extremities, in some cases serving as an alternative of the surgical revascularization. Satisfactory outcome, that is, foot salvation within 12 months after transluminal balloon angioplasty and stenting of lower extremity arteries could be observed in 31 (73.8%) patients, two cases requiring reoperation.

Considerable morbidity upon spontaneous wound healing (phlegmons, osteomyelitis, and purulent osteoarthritis of metatarsophalangeal joint) as well as loss of the diseased foot's walking ability are among the reasons for transition to plastic surgery in management tactics. The longer foot lesion persists, the higher probability of amputation. Improvement of treatment of both wound and ulcer lesions by means of reconstructive surgery in patients with diabetic foot syndrome was the main aim of the study. Outcomes of treatment of 460 patients managed at the Center for the Scientific and Clinical Study of Endocrinology, within the period from 2001 to 2009 were analyzed. Size, form, depth and localization of a wound, tissue composition of the wound bed as well as circulation in skin flaps caused the choice of specific operation: autodermoplasty by Parin (with the split-thickness skin flap), local tissue plastic operation (with the sliding or inter-advancing skin flaps, flaps from previously amputated toe or Indian flaps), plastic operation with the controlled tissue tension or combined plastic operation. Reconstructive foot wound surgery allows restoring load-bearing function of the extremity much earlier in contrast to spontaneous healing, reducing incidence of post-operative and long-term complications, amputations and re-amputations, decreasing period of treatment.
