Normal-weight obesity appears to be an extended diagnosis/syndrome associated with insufficient physical fitness levels and inadequate eating habits at least from school years. However, its relation to long term health parameters in pre-school children remains unknown, even though pre-school age is crucial for the determining healthy lifelong habits. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to investigate the differences in physical fitness level and basic eating habits between normal-weight obese, normal-weight non-obese, and overweight and obese preschoolers. The research sample consisted of 188 preschoolers aged 4.0-6.9 years (Mage = 5.52 ± 0.8 year), normal-weight obese = 25; normal-weight non-obese = 143, overweight and obese = 20. Body composition was measured using bio-impedance InBody230. Six tests assessed the physical fitness level: sit-ups; standing long jump; shuttle running 4 × 5 meters; throwing with a tennis ball; multistage fitness tests; sit and reach. A four-item eating habits questionnaire for parents focusing on breakfast regularity, consumption of sweet foods and drinks, selection of food and attitude towards eating was used. A non-parametric analysis of variance and Fisher's exact test along with suitable effect sizes were used for data processing of physical fitness tests and the basic eating habits questionnaire, respectively. Normal-weight obese children performed significantly worse (from p = 0.03 to p < 0.001, ES ω2-G = low to medium) in muscular fitness, cardiorespiratory fitness and running agility compared to normal-weight non-obese counterparts and did not significantly differ in the majority of physical fitness performance tests from overweight and obese peers. In basic eating habits, normal-weight obese boys preferred significantly more sweet foods and drinks (p = 0.003 ES = 0.35, large), while normal-weight obese girls had significantly more negative attitude towards eating (p = 0.002 ES = 0.33, large) in comparison to their normal-weight non-obese peers. Normal-weight obesity seems to develop from early childhood and is associated with low physical fitness and deficits in eating habits which might inhibit the natural necessity for physically active life from pre-school age or sooner.

Despite the health-related implications of normal-weight obesity in children, very little research has explored the fundamental associations between this status and important long-term health parameters. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to investigate the physical fitness of children with normal-weight obesity, in comparison to normal-weight non obese and overweight and obese counterparts. A total of 328 middle-school-aged children (9.8 ± 0.5 y) took part in this study (n = 44 normal-weight obese; n = 237; normal-weight non obese; n = 47 overweight and obese). Height, weight, and body-fatness were measured. Four physical fitness tests were conducted: (1) Multistage fitness test; (2) shuttle run 4 × 10 m; (3) sit-ups for 60 s; (4) the broad jump. Welch's analysis of variance (ANOVA), stratified by sex, with post-hoc testing where necessary, was performed. Children with normal-weight obesity had significantly (p < 0.01) lower cardio-respiratory and muscular fitness than normal-weight non obese peers. In addition, normal-weight obese and overweight and obese boys had comparable deficits in strength and explosiveness of lower limbs, speed coordination, and endurance, compared to normal-weight non obese counterparts. Normal-weight obese children appear to have similar deficits in PF as their overweight and obese peers, compared to normal-weight non obese counterparts, whilst boys had larger deficits than girls.

Background: Normal weight obesity in children has been associated with excessive body fat, lower bone density and decreased total lean mass. However, no studies have been done into whether normal weight obese children differ in skeletal robustness or lean mass development on the extremities from normal weight non-obese, overweight, and obese peers although these are important indicators of healthy development of children. Methods: Body height, body weight, BMI, four skinfolds, and two limb circumferences were assessed. We calculated total body fat using Slaughter's equations, the Frame index for skeletal robustness and muscle area for the upper arm and calf using Rolland-Cachera equations. Using national references of BMI and measured skinfolds, three subgroups of participants (9-12 years) consisting of 210 middle-school-aged children (M-age = 11.01 ± 1.05)-110 girls and 100 boys-were selected: (A) overweight obese (OWOB) (n = 72); (B) normal weight obese (NWO) (n = 69); and, (C) normal weight non-obese (NWNO) (n = 69). All values, were converted to Z-scores to take account of participant's sex and age. Results: NWO children had significantly poorer skeletal robustness on lower extremities and poorer muscle area on the upper arm and calf compared to NWNO counterparts with significantly higher evidence in boys-skeletal robustness NWO boys: Z-score = -0.85; NWO girls: Z-score = -0.43; lean mass on the calf: NWO boys Z-score = -1.34; NWO girls: Z-score = -0.85. The highest skeletal robustness-but not muscle area on the calf-was detected in OWOB children. Conclusions: Further research should focus on whether this poor skeletal and lean mass development: (1) is a consequence of insufficient physical activity regimes; (2) affects physical fitness of NWO children and could contribute to a higher prevalence of health problems in them. We have highlighted the importance of the development of a simple identification of NWO children to be used by pediatricians.

This article presents the second part of the results of the project, which was implemented in 2011 in cooperation with the Light Aircraft Association (LAA CR hereafter). The aim of this project was to analyze the properties of test from the theory of paragliding. This test from the theory of paragliding is part of the examination for obtaining a pilot's license in the LAA CR, and therefore it was necessary to assess the quality of this diagnostic tool. In this second part, we analyzed the quality of distractors, we assessed the validity and reliability of the test and we dealt with unusual situations that may arise in calculating the sensitivity of the task. Of the total number of 584 distractors we found 8% distractors as unsatisfactory and we recommended to replace them. When assessing the content validity, 3 of 292 tasks were designated as unsatisfactory. After removal of these tasks the test will be sufficiently content valid. The result of the estimation of reliability by method of Kuder-Richardson, which we modified, was 0.8, and we consider this a satisfactory reliability. Based on comparing three coefficients of sensitivity biserial coefficient is considered the most suitable.

There is currently a growing concern over the use of a representative survey, which could be used to develop standards in physical education and sport. The only reference data that can be usually found is that remaining from the 1980s. One of the new incentives could be the customized adjustment of standards, so that a person can compare themselves with the same group of people, not only by age and sex, as applies to most current traditional standards, but so that the group matches in other parameters, in other words, so that the standards are more differentiated. The aim of our research was to explore the differentiation of physical fitness standards in the Czech population, which in the future will be based on data management and analysis via a knowledge base. This system allows data differentiation according to specified criteria and thus the standard will become dynamic, i.e. relevantly adapted to each user. For our initial analysis, we chose the results of the motor test for the standing long jump in the male population aged 18–19 years, who are already adults, and for whom we have the largest database. Besides differentiation based on sex and age, we have also selected additional criteria for body height, body weight, level of physical activity and the region where the tested person works or attends school. The effect of these parameters that has been monitored based on the analysis of variance. Statistically significant differences occurred with the factors for body height (p-value < 0.0001), body weight (p-value < 0.0001) and the level of physical activity (p-value < 0.0001), while on the other hand, there were no significant statistical differences between groups in the regional factor (p = 0.1458). When evaluating the effect size of the variance analysis through the η2 coefficient, the regional factor shows very little effect (η2 = 0.0258), the body height factor and the level of physical activity show a medium effect (η2 = 0.0715 and η2 = 0.0775) and the body weight factor shows a great effect (η2 = 0.1473). Based on these results we consider expanding the number of criteria for the differentiation of standards as effective and appropriate. The analysis of the sorting factors is therefore one of the constituents, which will lead to the successful creation of a knowledge base.

Hodnocení postojů k pohybovým aktivitám dětí je aktuální u nás i v zahraničí. Cílem studie proto bylo provést evaluaci postojů k pohybovým aktivitám u dívek mladšího školního věku z Prahy a mimopražského regionu a porovnat výsledky obou skupin pomocí dotazníku CATPA/Grade Year 3. Dotazník postihuje šest dimenzí postojů − sociální cítění, zdraví, nebezpečí, sociální prožívání, estetično a radost z pohybu. Výsledky popsaly postoje dívek k pohybovým aktivitám podle jednotlivých dimenzí dotazníku CATPA/Grade Year 3. Komparace výsledků prokázala, že u dimenzí sociálního cítění, zdraví, nebezpečí a radosti z pohybu mají dívky (DM) (M=4,61; SD=0,51) pozitivnější postoj k pohybovým aktivitám než dívky (DP) (M=3,95; SD=0,87) při stanovené hladině významnosti p<0,05. Zjištěné statistické a věcné rozdíly mezi skupinou dívek z pražského a mimopražského regionu potvrzují závěry českých i zahraničních autorů o postoji dětí k pohybovým aktivitám.
The evaluation of attitudes toward physical activity by children is a very discussion issue by us and abroad. The main objective of this study was to determine the attitudes towards physical activities by girls from Prague (DP) and other region (DM) primary schools. The results were compare by both groups with helped the questionnaire CATPA/Grade Year 3. The questionnaire affects six dimensions of attitudes (social sensibilities, health hazards, social perception, aesthetics and the joy of movement). The research sample consisted of 74 girls (age=10,32±0,12) from the fourth grade of elementary school. Of that, 37 were girls of primary school in Prague (DP) and the rest 37 girls were from outside Prague´s primary school (DM). The results of the study described the attitude to physical activities girls from Prague and outside Prague elementary school elementary school in each dimension questionnaire CATPA/Grade Year 3. The results were compared. The result demonstrated that the dimensions of social engagement, health, danger and joy of movement girls (DM) (M=4,61; SD=0,51) have a more positive attitude towards physical activities than girls (DP) (M=3,95; SD=0,87), in determining the significance level of p<0,05. This research confirmed conclusion Czech and aboard researchers. The results confirm that girls from primary schools outside Prague have a positive relationship to physical activities than girls from primary schools of Prague.
Hlavním cílem této studie bylo zjištění postojů k pohybovým aktivitám u chlapců mladšího školního věku z pražského a mimopražského regionu a následná komparace výsledků obou skupin. Výsledky studie popsaly postoje k pohybovým aktivitám u chlapců CHP a CHM u jednotlivých dimenzí dotazníku CATPA/Grade Year 3.
The main objective of this study was to evaluate the attitudes towards physical activities by boys from Prague (CHP) and other region (CHM) primary schools. The results were compared by both groups. The research sample consisted of 78 boys (age = 10.46 ± 0.53) from the fourth grade of elementary school. The 39 boys were of primary school in Prague (CHP) and rest 39 boys were from outside Prague´s primary school (CHM). The results of the study described the attitude toward physical activities by boys from Prague and outside Prague primary schools in each dimension questionnaire CATPA/Grade Year 3. The results were compared with using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney methods and Behrens – Fisher. The results demonstrated that in dimensions of social engagement and joy of movement boys (CHM) M = 4,44 (SD = 0,88) have a more positive attitude towards physical activities than boys (CHP) M = 3,49 (SD = 0,94), in the significance level p < 0,05. We believe that this fact is due to the different lifestyles of children. The other authors share the same opinion in framework. The actual results confirm that children from primary schools outside the capital have a positive relationship toward physical activities than children from primary schools of the capital city.

The current study was conducted in order to examine the structure and relation between rotation, item (turning around a vertical axis) and validated preference tasks for the evaluation of the concepts of handedness and footedness in the adolescent population. A total of 220 individuals from Prague high schools (males = 104, females = 116) in the 17–19 age range (mean age 18.1 years) participated. Structural equation modelling, specifically MIMIC models, showed that turning behaviour has a significant regression relation to the concept of “lower limb preference” p<0.001. Participants with a right foot preference had a tendency to do rotation on the left side, whereas participants who showed a left foot preference in the tasks tested had a tendency to rotate on the right side. Moreover, in further processing of data by multigroup modelling it was found that the female population showed a slightly more stable preference of both locomotive organs than males, but a poor tendency in rotating. By contrast, the male population showed a significantly (p<0.01) strong relation of lower limb preference and rotating around a vertical axis, in the sense of rotating on the opposite side than the preferred lower limb. The limitations of the study and further suggestions are discussed.
